The Return of Woody

Okay. Yes. Scavenger Hunts are required of all SDA churches on Easter. Along with Resurrection Egg hunts.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Excuse me if I make a judgment on your patently idiotic statement. You go stick your head in the Fundamentals, while all that is needed is to follow the Bible and the SOP. Scavenger hunts, Resurrection eggs??? Did you say you have been around for 50 years, or 5 years? Reply all you want, Woody, I'm done with someone who has such a smug self righteousness and the IQ of a 'resurrection egg'.

And one last comment.

My Mum, who has been an SDA for 89 years also thinks your statements are inane, and more befitting of a child than an adult.

That must be quite the dilemma... :\

Not really. I can't see any gain in debating with someone who has such a childish attitude. He wants to denigrate my 'mommy', thats entirely up to him. He's a fool and its no use trying to reason with fools.

Woody does this every year just before Christmas or Easter. He will go out of his way to talk about how he sees nothing wrong with certain pagan aspects of these holidays, in a effort to hook you into some long and combative thread about what and how sda worship during this holidays. He gets a kick out of this, him and a few others. Just ignore them.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

Scavengers are to be avoided in my area.

You are so funny!!

Thanks Gerry.

Yes, you are my favorite banter specialist.

And you are good at what you do. :)

(Wait ... let me run to the Church Manual and see if bantering is allowed. HA HA !! Or you could help me by asking your Mom.)

Wow. 3,000 of them. I am impressed. How does that compare to the number of Christians who might meet in just ONE church?

You are being blessed by the qualities of the internet to find such isolated trash. But it does not prove your point. I refuse to let some small number of isolated pagans rule over how I worship.

I read at least one or two papers each day and have since I was a boy. This is the first such encounter I've come across. But of course it's in a foreign country. eh :)

If you ever decide to do some research on the topic, you'll soon find out that millions of people have celebrated this pagan holiday for thousands of years before Jesus was even born. The Israelites did the same thing. Was God pleased? Nope, He sent them to Babylon in Exile. God called it idolatry. We are doing the same thing today.

“The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'I am the LORD your God. You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the LORD your God.” (Leviticus 18:1-4)

It doesn't matter that you think you are actually worshipping the True God. By going against His commands, you are not worshipping Him, but rebelling against Him. The Israelites thought the same thing. When they set up the Golden Calf, they were doing with the intention of worshipping the True God, not the gods from Egypt. Was God smiling and saying "At least they tried"? Nope! He was very very mad. He wanted to destroy them all.

“The Lord told Moses, “Quick! Go down the mountain! Your people whom you brought from the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it. They are saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” Then the Lord said, “I have seen how stubborn and rebellious these people are. Now leave me alone so my fierce anger can blaze against them, and I will destroy them.” (Exodus 32:7-10 NLT)

“The subtle danger of syncretistic worship lies in its claim to be worshipping the true God, Yahweh. When the Israelites brought idols and idolatrous practices into the Temple, they did not think of their actions as an abandonment of Yahweh. They thought of it as just supplementing their worship with customs borrowed from heathen idol worship. Even the golden calf at Mount Sinai was not regarded as a substitute god to replace Yahweh; rather, it was regarded as a symbolic representation of Yahweh. This can be seen in Aaron's reference to the golden calf as the God "which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt" and his proclamation that the worship of the golden calf would be "a feast unto Yahweh" - not a feast to some Egyptian god (Ex. 32:4f).” - SYNCRETISM: A Blending of Paganism & Truth, by Dr. Daniel Botkin, (Gates of Eden, July-August 2005) p.8

There's plenty of examples in the Bible of people thinking they were worshipping the True God, but in reality they were just rebelling against Him and angering Him.

-Blatant sun worship in the house of the LORD by God's own people. God calls these Abominations. (Ezekiel 8:5-18)

—To protect his kingdom and his life, Jeroboam thought it would be a good idea to set up his own feast in the eighth month (as opposed to the seventh month as commanded by God) with two golden calves no less and other aspects of pagan worship (1 Kings 12:26-33). Not exactly a good idea!

God was definitely not pleased (1 Kings 14:14-16).

Just because you read several newspapers everyday for 50+ years, doesn't make you automatically knowledgeable on every topic there is. It might benefit you to actually do some real research before concluding that God will just smile at you every time you worship Him. Especially if you're totally disregarding the rules He's set up on how He wants to be worshipped.

Let's see now....following God and worship of Him started in the

garden of Eden...pagans came later, not sure just when, but much later.

So.....I reckon the followers of God had 'ownership' of the calender first,

7 day week and all, 24 hour day, etc. So it would seem to me that pagans

are following worshipers of God, not the opposite!!!

I know, it is a little difficult to keep track of who 'owns' which days of he week!!

That's what happens when we "take over" pagan customs and try to Christianize them. We lose track of what is true worship and what is not.

Although all those pagan gods were born on Dec. 25th, Jesus definitely was not. And that's exactly why we shouldn't celebrate Jesus birth at that time (ie. Christmas). Because we are just promulgating the lie that Jesus was born on December 25 and making Him seem like just another pagan god from history.

Here's a video that explains the truth about both Christmas and Easter: Truth or Tradition

Don't watch it if you don't want to know the truth. If you like celebrating Christmas and Easter, and you're happier not knowing that true worship CANNOT include these two pagan festivals, then just pretend you never read this and continue living your lives the way you are.

Me thinks there is something in your 'kool aid'. I have yet to come across anyone who believes that Christ was born on 12/25. If you wish, celebrate on an other day! Don't want to celebrate Christs resurrection, you don't have too or pick a day to your choosing!!

At my church they mentioned that prayer meeting will have a "seven last words" theme. That is about as close to an Easter service that we are having.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.
