Stan
Mourners farewell SA triple murder victim May 12, 2011 - 2:09PM AAP More than 100 mourners gathered in Adelaide to farewell a man who came to Australia for a safer life but was gunned down in a triple murder at his home. Family and friends flocked to the Trinity Gardens Seventh Day Adventist church in Adelaide's northeast on Thursday for a memorial service for husband and father Luc Mombers, 41. Mr Mombers was one of three family members allegedly shot dead by a neighbour in suburban Hectorville on April 29. His parents-in-law Kobus Snyman, 64, and Annetjie Snyman, 65, who were on holiday from South Africa, were also killed. Mr Mombers and his widow Rika had migrated to Adelaide from South Africa three years ago with their children in search of a safer life. Dressed in a red coat and clutching a black purse, an emotional Mrs Mombers was the first to exit the church after the service. Mrs Mombers and her 14-year-old son Marcel both survived the attack. Daughter Alicia was not in the house at the time. The three thanked friends on Thursday for their support in a message in the funeral service program. "Thank you for sharing this time with us, knowing we are in your thoughts and hearts is a great comfort," they wrote. The congregation at the service joined in prayers, sang the hymn We Shall Gather at the River, and viewed a slide show of Mr Mombers' life. A policeman was shot in the face and seriously wounded during the alleged attack after responding to Mrs Mombers' distress call. Mrs Mombers' son was shot in the neck, but Mrs Mombers escaped along with an 11-year-old boy who was also staying in the house. Neighbour Donato Anthony Corbo, 39, has been charged with three counts of murder and two of attempted murder. His case is before the courts. Administrators Gail Posted May 12, 2011 Administrators Share Posted May 12, 2011 Oh, how horrible! Very sad to have met such a violent end. Thankfully they had a hope in the resurrection!
