Robert Burman, a well-known Adventist architect, died October 14, 2011. He designed several elegant Adventist churches in Southern California.

Robert J. Burman, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday evening, Oct. 14, 2011 in Glendale, CA. He was born June 12, 1924 in Tacoma, Washington to Winifred (Larson) Burman and John Arthur Burman. Bob served in WWII in the Philippines. He was married to Marilyn Scott on September 7, 1947. They had two sons, one born in 1950 and one in 1960.

He graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's of Architecture in 1952, Seattle, Washington. He practiced architecture in Seattle until he moved to Glendale in 1960 and started an office there. He produced in Glendale over 35 years. He designed more than 85 churches on the West Coast. One of his favorites is the Vallejo Drive Seventh-day Adventist Church in Glendale.

He served as Commissioner for the Building Dept. of Glendale in 1979-1984.

He was a gentle creative man who loved his work very much.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Rob of Glendale and Erik of Eureka, CA; daughter-in-law, Sherie and granddaughter, Kara; five nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law and niece.

He had two brothers and a sister who are deceased.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 5 at Vallejo Drive Seventh-day Adventist Church at 4:00 p.m.

It is such a shame that people die. Looking forward to the time when that ceases.

Robert made a significant difference while he was here. We need more folks like him who make a mark and a difference, with the same attitude he had.
