Stan
Where is this person? What would he/she say and do? I can say this, it will NOT be the armchair critics that bazzel on everything someone says about anything. It will be someone who presses forward. It will NOT be someone who takes down every established faith statement people say. Moderators Bravus Posted January 16, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2012 I agree with your basic premise, Stan: a new speaker who could inspire would do so with a positive message rather than a negative one. It's a tough sell these days, though: a controversial attack message is likely to get a lot more attention than even a great inspirational message. Given how huge an industry 'self-improvement' is in the US, I think a speaker who was able to take the gospel and make it practical in terms of how to live our everyday lives in better, more fulfilling, more ethical ways that led to strong, happy families would be attractive. Stan
If you listen to most of his sermons, they were not full of quadrisyllabic works. They were easy to understand. I think his biggest asset was PASSION. Leadership fought against him so many times, and caused much discouragement.. He did not act like a 'know it all' that seems to plague, well I better stop there. Moderators Bravus Posted January 16, 2012 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2012 Yes, that combination of being authoritative - it being clear he knew what he was talking about - without being authoritation, and a clear and deep humility, is a rare and valuable thing. Stan
He was very very well read, and only had one eye that partly worked. He taught the basic bible teachings with out luggage. Stan, how did the membership at large respond to him? Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Stan
Historically he was loved. BUT had some rough moments as many do who try new things. He was using the devil's tool, radio. When he worked a deal with Collin's Bible Company to have the HMS Richards Bible, he came under heavy fire for producing an Adventist Bible. It is the same old thing, those who did nothing yelled the loudest against someone doing something. joeb
I was born into the SDA church, left it for a few years in my 20's and then came back by studying my way into it, and I've never heard a negative word said about HMS Richards. Gibs
There was a lot of difference between HMS Richards SR. and HMS JR. Same with the J L Tucker ministry. I liked the SR's but not so much the JR's. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Woody
I've listened to both the SR's and the JR's and I feel that both are Spirit lead and are blessed. I have no problem listening to all of them. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Administrators Naomi Posted January 20, 2012 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2012 If would be a difficult situation to be the son of a famous pastor. Even if you are groomed for the position and are called. To be compared would be a heavy burdon to carry. IMHO The Jr's are good speakers in their own right.
