Moderators LynnDel Posted July 9, 2005 Moderators Share Posted July 9, 2005 Amelia, You need a couple more pronunciations in that list! One is from the local almond ranchers (Modesto area). They say "aaa-monds" (flat a). If you've seen the way they often harvest them (big long sticks), you'd understand the local joke (which I now forget exactly; groan). Anyway, it goes something like this: "What are those guys doing with those big, long sticks?" Answer: "They're getting the nuts out of the tree by knocking the 'L' out of them."* The other pronunciation is "aw-monds". I need that button so I can vote for it (you grow up saying it how you've heard it). LD *If it doesn't make sense, try saying it out loud. aldona
The Aussie pronounciation is more like "aaa-monds." Although I've heard the occasional "al-monds" as well. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music?
