Stan
A statement I heard yesterday... Is there enough evidence in your checkbook to convict you of being a Christian?? No, since most of my banking is done by electronic transfers... Sorry, I guess by that measure, I am NOT a Christian... Moderators Bravus Posted August 12, 2005 Moderators Share Posted August 12, 2005 It's a nice thought-provoking concept: and one that challenges me. Neil, I guess we could convict you of 'cyber-Christianity'. I'm not sure it follows through, though: I guess there'd be evidence of giving to the church, but the whole Matthew 25, sheep and goats thing is about giving to others - and there are lots of kind, caring atheists who also give to charities and support those less fortunate. But in the final analysis, it's a great reminder that 'where your treasure is, there will your heart be also' - and vice versa. Stan
electronic checkbooks supply enough evidence as well... Dr. Shane
I would have to say that with all the expenditures I make to Christian organizations and the weekly trips to the Christian bookstores, that someone examining my bank records would strongly suspect I was a Christian. darlene
Yes, I guess I'd be convicted because most of my cheques are for tithes and offerings. The rest I do on the Internet or pay by debit.

NormF
Obviously, to be truthful, pen-and-paper or cyberfied activity are relatively immaterial. Whether the trail left is of paper or of binary bits, a trail is a trail. But the part that challenges me is in Bravus' reminder:
Quote:
... there are lots of kind, caring atheists who also give to charities and support those less fortunate. . But in the final analysis, it's a great reminder that 'where your treasure is, there will your heart be also' - and vice versa.

I know some very fine people who make no claims to Christianity whatsover. Yet by this measure, I have to say they are depositing much treasure in heaven. Does this mean that in the end they will or won't follow their treasure? (Recall as you ponder this that none of us can know another's heart; all we can tell about them is what we see them doing.) If they can follow it home, will they have to acquire the name "Christian" through some formality now in order to do so then? I am inclined to think not. What about it? If "by their fruits, ye shall know them," can a turnip be a rose? Or is only a rose a rose? Regards, Norm Quote Debile fundamentum, fallit opus. - "Where there is a weak foundation, the work falls."
