Moderators Bravus Posted August 12, 2005 Moderators Share Posted August 12, 2005 So, did the job interview with the University of Queensland in Brisbane yesterday, expecting to maybe hear in a few days whether I'd got through to the next round of interviews. Instead, they phoned back a couple of hours later and offered me the job! Nice to feel wanted... Haven't said 'yes' to them yet, still negotiating around salaries, ranks and and so on, but it's at least 90% probable that I will end up accepting this job. We'd stay here for almost another year, though, and move next July. Exciting times! Won't actually impact my CA participation much, I imagine, but I may well get a chance to meet up with some of the Aussie denizens. Stan
Which city will our address be when we come to move in with you there? I have learned over the years, and it was a couple of days ago, that it does feel go to say No, I think I will stay where I am at, and it is nice to be asked to take on a new position even if you say no. (and in this case i do) But among other things I think my kids would divorce me if I don't take them back to Oz... And the fact that it's mid-summer here and mid-winter in Brisbane and yesterday our maximum was 17 and theirs was 20 is a powerful inducement. Sun, sea, sand, surf! Moderators Bravus Posted August 12, 2005 Author Moderators Share Posted August 12, 2005 Yep, the school year in Australia lines up with the calendar year, so usually February-October or so for university teaching, rather than September-April like here. The reason for waiting is the Carnegie Scholarship I got this year, that I may have mentioned once or twice here . It runs until next June, and it was important to me to finish that up, and the University of Queensland agreed that that was worthwhile to do. So I'll be moving between semesters of the Australian school year, so that will work OK. It'll be a bit weird for our kids because they'll go in the middle of the school year - as they did when we came north. We'll look into possibilities, including giving them 6 months off, or homeschooling them really hard to try to finish a year's work in 6 months! Amelia
Bravus, the great thing is, no matter where you move, you are always at home here at CA. Quote
"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you." Eph 4:29

Fairview Or
