If so, post it here and tell us about it.

Barbara, we know that you went to Yellowstone and visited Montana...where else did you go?

Oh, and don't be afraid of posting a picture or two...We'd like to see where all of us are gonna go to next year! wink.gifgrin.gif

I guess I should start....

So, let's see, where did I go...?????

We went to Crater Lake last month and to Ashland Oregon tothe Shakespearian Festival.

At Crater Lake, we camped with my wife's nephew and his dad and it rained...for 3 nights it rained and during the day was cloudy and foggy and we were all miserable and cold. I tried to get some pictures but what to shoot with all the fog around. We did miss a most fantastic shot of Crater Lake . It was about 7:30 in the friday evening, we just got to the rim drive and saw the Lake with all the clouds swirling around the caldron and the evening sun reflecting pinks off the clouds and blues of the lake and sky. It would have been a gorgeous shot...But did we get it? Oh, no, says we. There will be more like this the rest of the weekend...Yeah, sure...

Oh, while I am at it...do not take dogs to the National Parks as they will only be allowed on leash and only in certain PAVED walk ways. Apparently, you can not feed the squirrels and birds peanuts either, as it is a $50 fine. And no, I didn't get caught. smirk.gif

We went to the Shakespearian festival in Ashland Oregon. Took in "The Twelve Night" and also went to a Caborae [s[] where we had dinner and listen to a troup perform a lot of Carol King's songs...It was lovely. cool.gif

In early May we went to Decorah, IA; then, to the Mall of America, the Minnesota Zoo and Wisconsin Dells.

In late July we took in the Garden of the Gods (in Illinois!) and Mammoth Cave in Kentucky.

The best part of summer was spent right here in St. Louis: swimming, ice skating, archery practice, canoeing, camping, BBQs, fireworks, birthday parties, VBS, a day at the water park, pellet rifle lessons, late night movies, watching West Side Story at the Muny, watching my niece learn to crawl (and STAND!)...and finally, waving the neighbor kids off to school this morning while my own, homeschooled kids, got to sleep in!

We had a weekend in Banff/Lake Louise and at the Calgary Zoo, which was rushed but nice. I also spent time in Palo Alto CA, Oxford England and Washington DC, but that was all work, honest!

We went to NE China, to the city we taught at 10 years ago. Visited a "farm" in the countryside, the parents of our good friend we were visiting. We had visited there 10 years ago, just before leaving, and they treated us like a returning daughter and family. The boys had a ball there, playing with the dog, feeding the donkeys, chasing chickens and ducks, riding the motorbike with Lao Ye (grandpa), going "fishing." Probably too many things to mention. That place holds a very special place in our hearts and we wanted the boys to see it before it was too late (the parents are moving, and the valley may be turned into a reservoir if the government decides to build a dam there).

Then we went to the city we lived in, where our friend lives. Saw our old campus, which is now a senior middle school. The college is now a university, so we saw the brand new still under construction university facility. At least the outside. We didn't have much time to look around the inside of the buildings, but from the outside, pretty impressive. Met a young lady from Indiana who is teaching at a language school and studying Chinese at the university--she may come stay with us on her way back to the US in May.

our friend has a little girl, so the boys and she played together, once they warmed up to each other. She knows more English than they know Chinese, but she was too shy to use it for the first week or so. The boys learned and became pretty fluent at the basics, like hello, goodbye, thank-you, you're welcome, as well as let's go and I don't know.

The boys and I then spent a day in Beijing before flying home. Had planned on spending longer, but they were both sick and too tired to do much traveling. As it was, the Blue Zoo (indoor aquarium with sharks, sea turtles, etc) and Forbidden City wore them out. The Wall will wait!

Lots more to tell, but that's the bare bones. Really felt like going home in a lot of ways.

Circle Game:

Ten children (or more) join hands and dance around the FARMER, who stands in the center of the circle as they sing. At the end of the first verse, the FARMER chooses his WIFE, who joins him inside the circle. At the end of the next verse, the WIFE takes a CHILD, and so on, until the last verse when everyone is in the circle except the CHEESE, who stands alone. Whoever ends up being the CHEESE becomes the FARMER for the next round.

Pictures will have to wait until I get home. Much faster conect there. We had to change our plans for Yellowstone. Too Cold there this week. Plus several storms going thourgh right now. So we drove to Shardin WY last night and of to Hot Springs SD today. We stopped and saw Devils Tower. WoW what a sight to view. We had thought about hiking arround the base a 1 1/2 mile hike, but Paul hurt his toe the other night whan getting out of the pool at the motel. It's all black and blue and even purple. We are spoiling ourselves this week. We decide that we would stay in a KOA Kabin. Sounded like to much work to sleep in a tent. Pluse it rained last night and was raining when we arrived here in Hot Springs. We might try and get a KOA Kabin near Yellostone after Paul's work is done next week. That way we can stay warm even if it is cold at night. It all depend on How much money we have left. We found the Adventist Church here in Hot Springs and are thinking about showing up for church even though we do not have nice Sabbath Clothes with us. Oh We got to see antalopes today while we were driving and even Praire dogs. WE are have a great relaxing time. Hugs to all From our KOA Kabin smilie_zoom.gif

Heh, I thought "A Snowflake's chance in Arizona" was the vegetarian equivalent of another expression for something with a very low probability of survival!

No real vacation, jsut three trips, as we call them at my house.

1. To my alma mater academy for its last reunion; it was closed at the end of the school year. Only two others from my class came. It was two days in the car each way, plus three days there. Took my four-year-old and little dog. Dog travels better than the boy.

2. To visit family in Nampa, Idaho. Was there a week; came home. No more to tell.

3. To visit the church where I was baptised and grew up. It was their fiftieth anniversary of the building. Had a great time. Saw my brother who lives half-way across the country. He was afraid the ceiling would fall in--it's been so long since he was in church. Saw childhood friends.

Distance in the car was about the same. Took boy, dogs stayed at the kennel.

Next time I go, I want to see "sights" as well as people I know.

My vacation was an interesting one. Sort of a working vacation - with the Singles group out of the Collegedale area. My wife and I went on a medical missionary trip to Ecuador - the west coast - to a community called La Libertad (The liberty) where we held medical clinic for over 800 patients, gave away about 250 pairs of glasses plus unknown quantity of clothes to the people in this dirt poor type of environment. I mean dirt poor - no grass, shrubbery, trees - just dirt. The land is barren because of deforestation which doesn't allow any moisture from the ocean to stay in the area. The people are most happy to see any help they can get. It was an eye opening experience, believe me. We were down there 14 days - 11 days of work and 3 days of "vacation" inland in the town of "Baños de la Agua Santa" (Baths of the holy water). Locals just call it "Baños". There are thermal hot springs there that allow hot baths for visitors to relax in. Water is heated by volcanic thermal activity, I guess. Volcano above the city is semi-dormant. Interesting place to visit.

Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.

I went to Snowflake, Arizona, and on the way passed through some interesting territory

I am allergic to something in the desert and had to spend my time doped up on meds

In spite of that we learned what a hogan is and saw much Native art

That sounds like the best kind of vacation. Oh sure it is work but is the most rewarding type of work there is! I spent this summer on two mission trips and going to the GC session. It was tiring, but rewarding and well worth it! There is nothing like doing something that has eternal value.

I also love camping, so will have to get that in here and there before the rain starts where I live.

LOL

Yes, we did go through the Irish state (O'Regan), but we were about 200 miles east of you I did think of you, though, when we saw the mileage signs

We cut across the eastern corner of Oregon down through my boss' old stomping grounds- a place called Pendleton. Then we followed the Oregon Trail to Idaho, down through Salt Lake City, Utah to Moab where we saw bats and stayed the night.

The next day we drove through Monument Valley and carried on to Snowflake. Thankfully where we were was up in altitude and not as hot as Tucson or Phoenix. There are thunderstorms there pertnear every day

Don't know how folks can live in that hostile land... I'm afraid I'm an seaside girl
