Moderators Nan Posted February 7, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 7, 2012 I tend to acknowledge in my mind but do nothing about it:) Probably unromantic but it does not lessen my feelings for the significant other.
Woody
Well - you are a good wife. But not many husbands would get away with that. At least in the States. Administrators Naomi Posted February 7, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 7, 2012 Woody, Valentines Day has been the best and the worst for me. My Daddy always made it special, he would have a pretty box of chocolates for Mother, myself and later my daughters and then granddaughters. He would also give Mother roses, and would take all available girls out diner. The worst: My ex had some beautiful roses sent to me ... unfortunaely the flower shop got it mixed up and sent my roses and a sweet note to me. BUT, there was also another dozen roses with his girl friends name on it ... and another sweet note! Both delivered to me! Oh, it was a sad thing to see what happened to those beautiful roses!! As a middle of the road, two years ago a life-long friend whose girlfriend had just given him the boot said that since we were both alone, let's go out for a nice diner. I thought that sounded pretty good. Unfortunately, a couple who were under the influence of something??? rear ended us resulting in a 4 car accident. Valentine Day means to me the sweetness of knowing you are loved and important to someone. We have holidays for all kinds of things, why not have a special day to say "You are special" Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

Administrators Gail Posted February 7, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 7, 2012 When I was alone Valentine's Day wasn't that bad. Country music love songs really grated on my head, though, NOT because of what I was missing out on but because they just seemed sugary weird. I'm okay with Valentine's Day the same as I used to be, but still have a hard time wrapping my brain around Country music. Administrators Gail Posted February 7, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 7, 2012 As far as people who really get into it for Valentine's Day, I'd have to nominate Jerry Rogers. Liz
I love Valentines day. Remember when we were kids and we would decorate a shoe box, then make out valentine cards for every single person in our class? I enjoyed doing that and then adding a little sucker or piece of candy to each one. Then handing them out during our class party, and opening up my box and seeing all of my treats. That was just so much fun. Being homeschooled my kids missed out on that--the one draw back. I have always tried to get them special little treats and we usually watch a sappy movie on V-day. My husband and I always give each other something special and usually go out to eat. I haven't gotten his yet, but I have some ideas. Administrators Naomi Posted February 8, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 8, 2012 Liz, your account of the decorated shoe box really brought back some good memories. It was so much fun to pick out that special card for each classmate. Remember the big bags of assorted cards. And, when you approached the teen years it really became important to pick just the right card for the right person. LOL A few years ago, in going through some of mothers things I found a very special care from a special person, at that time. I had to laugh when I found it. I shared it with his wife and we both had a good laugh.
