Does anyone know of any agencies or corporations who are matching donations? For example, if you give $100 they will match it with $100 of their own? I'd prefer to donate through one of those, that way the people in need get twice the provision. If you know of any please post here. Thanks.

Barry Manilow and Manilow Fund Matching Donations For Hurricane Katrina Relief

In yet another story of the generosity of musicians and the music industry in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Barry Manilow and the Manilow Fund are providing matches for contributions for hurricane relief. For each $1 donated on the Manilow Fund web site, Barry will personally add $1 and the fund will add another making it a $3 donation to the American Red Cross. This fund delivered $150,000 in less than 48 hours for relief. They are now raising up to another $50,000 to triple to $150,000 for a grand total of $300,000. As you know, Hurricane Katrina devastated a wide swath of the U.S. Gulf Coast earlier this week. The sheer magnitude of the destruction and the aftermath are unimaginable. Many of you are, like me, frustrated with feelings of helplessness as we watch footage or read news from New Orleans, Mississippi, and Alabama. Our company is based in Northern Alabama, and this feels like it's happening in our backyard.

If I may, I respectfully request that you please use some of the money you've saved reading our sites to make a donation to hurricane relief. For every dollar you donate to the American Red Cross from now through September 15, dealnews will match 100%, up to a total of $5,000. Our goal is to raise a total of $10,000 including yours and our donations. How it works:

[:"purple"] WASHINGTON, Saturday, September 03, 2005 — Because of the overwhelming response from customers, Lowe's Companies, Inc. announced today it will increase to $2 million from $1 million its commitment to match customer donations made to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Lowe's activated its in-store customer donation program on Monday to benefit the Red Cross at all of its more than 1,125 locations nationwide.

"In just a few days, our customers have generously donated more than $820,000 to disaster relief efforts through our customer donation program," said Robert A. Niblock, Lowe's chairman, president and CEO. "As we continue to see images of the devastation in coastal Louisiana and Mississippi, Lowe's is proud to extend our commitment to match customer donations up to a total of $2 million to assist the Red Cross in meeting the needs of the thousands left homeless as a result of this disaster."

"Starting Saturday, we will match customer donations up to $500,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund made at Sears and Kmart stores," said Aylwin Lewis, president of Sears Holdings and chief executive officer of Kmart and Sears Retail. "We hope our customers will join us in providing support to those who are most in need."

Donations will be accepted at Sears and Kmart's 3,500 stores in the U.S. through the end of September. In addition, Sears and Kmart stores in and around the impacted area are accepting American Red Cross vouchers and client assistance cards as payment for products needed to rebuild from the storm.
