aldona Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 No, Wallace & Gromit are not on DVD yet...the movie has only just started at the theater a few days ago. We had a pleasant night out with a couple of friends we haven't seen for a while - fish & chips for dinner at a nearby restaurant and then the movie. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> OK...you can all report me to the church board now... <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/seenoevil.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/tongue1.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/icon_salut.gif" alt="" /> aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Michelle Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 YOu can see how up to date I am--I see the "coming attractions" preview and assume that I've already missed it! (not that it's showing in HK--but I don't know, maybe I should check) I so seldom go to a theatre to see a movie that I just don't keep up to date (I think the last one I saw was part 3 of LOTR). Michelle Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Aldona--is it "6 year old" scary? My 6 y/o adores Wallace and Gromit, but there are some scenes that, the first time, scared him. Is this one that is kid-safe and mother approved? M Quote

Can your 6-year-old cope with the sight of a giant furry rabbit the size of King Kong going on a nocturnal rampage and gobbling up everybody's prized vegetable gardens? Moderators LynnDel Posted September 23, 2005 Moderators Posted September 23, 2005 Isn't fall just a fabulous time of year? The air is cooler, the grass suddenly gets greener when the trees diminish their demand for water, the weeds have mostly given up trying to make more work for the gardener, pomegranates and persimmons will soon be ripe, and there is the promise of colorful leaves drifting off the trees, puddling around the trunks on the green grass below. I know exactly the tree I want to visit when that happens. LD Quote LD

Michelle Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 LEt's see, Aldona--it's more of suspense that he has a hard time with. Yes, the cyberdog in the sheep o matic had him going the first time. Also something in the wrong trousers--hmm, now I can't remember. If a large rampaging rabbit is the worst of it, he could probably deal with it. He knows enough about Wallace and Gromit not to take it too seriously. I read the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book when I was a kid (unbeknownst to my mom!) and found it very funny and dark, but I was older than 7. Wouldn't let my 6 or 8 year old see it, but I'm rather conservative with them. M Quote

Paul Beach Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 On a traffic light, green means "go" and yellow means "yield," but on a banana it's just the opposite. Green means "hold on," yellow means "go ahead," and red means "Where did you get that banana at?" Quote
Paul Beach Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 You know they call corn on the cob, corn on the cob, but that's how it comes out of the ground, man. They should call that "corn." Michelle Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Where in the world did we come up with these silly little personal pronoun sayings that some of us put on the bottom of our postings. Like, "/me ducks out of the room". Excuse me, when did "me" become a subject pronoun? I have beginning EFL students who know the simple fact that "I" is a subject pronoun and "me" is an object pronoun. Is this another example of Internet shorcuts changing our language? I already have students turn in papers with "ppl" written instead of "people." Must we perpetuate this?????? Especially since it tends to be the better-educated among us here at C/A who do this. Personal gripe mode off. M Quote
Amelia Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 the /me.... comes from IRC chat. It is an action command that would have caused whatever was written after the /me to be either printed in another color or italics etc. It represents a visual of the typers actions. Say I was the typer and I wanted the room to know I was leaving the keyboard for whatever reason. I would have typed /me leaves the room. What you would see is.....Amelia leaves the room. So in a sense it has become a type of cyber speak. /me waves bye bye Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Michelle Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Thanks. I obviously was ignorant. After I wrote this, I had a brain flash and thought that perhaps these were the folks trying to force everyone to use the KJV in church. They like the "methinks" of Early Modern English (Shakespeare is contemporary with KJV) and want to perpetuate this. Anyway, thanks for the info. Now I'm not quite so ignorant! M Quote
