Someone Missing During Hurricane Katrina?

Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists is supplying a Hurricane Katrina Missing Persons Contact Forum where information can be posted by victims and loved ones - either to find a missing person, or for victims to leave a message about their condition and location. Spread the word. We are in hopes that hurricane victims will somehow be able to get word out to someone with electricity and Internet access, who will be able to leave word at this website of their condition. Eventually, the list will grow, and internet accessibility in stricken areas will be enhanced.

AMATEUR RADIO VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED IN KATRINA RECOVERY

Amateur radio operators in Louisiana and nearby states are already organizing to address the Hurricane Katrina situation. Read about this at http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2005/08/30/1/?nc=1

The Adventist Amateur Radio Association is working with the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, sponsored by the American Radio Relay League. "People who contact you with health and welfare traffic can be encouraged to find an active ham operator in their vicinity and have him get on the SATERN net mentioned in the article, or go to their website at www.satern.org,"; says Jim Hoffer, president of the Adventist Amateur Radio Association.

The Southwestern Union also has "safe" and "searching for" lists on its Southwest Adventist Hurricane Center web site.

Go to www.swahc.org or www.southwesternadventist.org to find the list and check on someone you're missing. We've already been able to find some who were thought to be missing and connect others to their loved ones.

Jerry & Amelia;

Thanks for the link. I found that Ben and Silvia Orian are OK. Now I just need to find a few more. What a relief to see those lists. Some we praise because they are safe and for the others we have to keep praying for their safety.

The greatest want of the world is the want of men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true & honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty..., men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.{Ed 57.3}

Does anyone know of any lists of non-SDAs [i.e., the general public] who are safe --or those who are missing-- in the hurricane areas?

I have a close friend, non-Adventist, from California who was driving back to MS with his wife and hasn't been heard from since Labor Day.

Wow, thank you, Amelia. That's a VERY complete listing!

But, thankfully, just today we heard from our long-lost friend. He and his wife had arrived back at their second home in Southern Mississippi and found they'd had five feet of flood water in their house. All their possessions are lost or destroyed. Their phone and cable service have been out until just now. Their computer was destroyed, but thankfully he borrowed a laptop which operated on wireless and he posted a message for his Western friends just today. We've all breathed a sigh of relief that they at least are safe.
