Yong T Tay
A German inventor recently found a way to produce diesel with dead cats, but aroused strong opposition from animal protectors. According to Reuters report, 55-year-old Christian Koch said the method uses daily garbage, cadavers of cats and other materials. The whole process can be done at home. It has been proved that the fuel can be used in common diesel generators for civilian use. Koch said that he tanks his car with the diesel mixture and has driven it for 170,000 kilometers without any problems. According to the website of Koch's company, his invention has won patent. The equipment called "KDV500" can produce what he calls "bio-diesel" at a cost of 23 euro cents (about 30 US dollar cents) per liter, which is one fifth of diesel price at gas stations. Koch said only 20 cats are needed to fill a 50-liter tank. However, Koch's innovation aroused opposition from animal protectors. Chairman of a German animal protection association said it is illegal to process fuel with dead cats and they will pay close attention to the matter. cricket
Yeah, it is gross. But, think about this...why don't these animal-rights activists protest the use of petroleum? It is said in the scientific field that petroleum is made from dinosaur remains.
Fran
Are we eating this petrolem? That was hard to ask after all of this other stuff. My thought are that we breathe it and we breathe diesel too. Right about now I am thankful for oxygen! But that is not good either. It burns the lungs. Where do we draw the line? I haven't thought of this in years! Neil D
What about all the strays cats and dogs that are euthanised because noone wants them? What do they do with the bodies? Why not make bio-diesel? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.  George Bernard Shaw
Derrell M
Ahhh, then we get into the same contention as is raised in stem cell research. If a commercial use for dead bodies is created, will live bodies be tracked down and made dead for the purpose of commerce?
Birmbear
Take another look beyond the attention-grabbing headline: Quote: the method uses daily garbage, cadavers of cats and other materials. The whole process can be done at home. All the guy is doing is recycling garbage -- which in this case includes the carcasses of "dead cats" as well as "other materials" into a useful product. Instead of having this stuff lie and rot in a landfill (what we call them in the USA), he's doing something positive with it. So what's the big deal? __Birm
Neil D
Quote: So what's the big deal? Let's see.... If I have a "dog and cat" farm, in which I raise animals to kill them to make bio-diesel fuel.....there might be some ethical questions....like treatment of the animals ie getting them extremely cheap food [aka something short of starving them], not keeping them healthy [aka living thier lives in cages, no touching/loving, not worried about diseased animals]...... You know, those sorts of things....all for the consumption of the auto consumer... Derrell M
This topic is CATastrophic. Its impact on the oil industry could be CATaclysmic. If cars can run on cats, they'll soon be running trucks on CATtle. Ohhhh, these horrible puns are punishment.
