aldona
From an Islamic website/forum:
Quote:
Palestinian Refugees Donate to Survivors of Hurricane Katrina Report, PTT, 13 September 2005 electronic intifada RAMALLAH -- Palestinian refugees, moved by the plight of survivors of Hurricane Katrina will present US Consul-General, Jake Wallace, with a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross. The donation will be given today (13 September 2005) at 12 noon at the President’s Office in Ramallah. Dr. Rafiq Husseini, Chief of Staff of President Mahmoud Abbas will offer the donation on behalf of the President and Palestinian refugees. The donation will be earmarked to those survivors most affected by the Hurricane – the displaced poor, elderly and disabled. Money was recently collected by Palestinian refugees in the refugee camps of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Commenting on the donation, President Abbas notes, "On behalf of the Palestinian people and, in particular, the refugee communities of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, I wish to express our deepest sympathy with the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. With our humble donation, we feel it is important to show our concern since Palestinians know all too well the pain and hardship caused by being a refugee. We pray that they will soon be able to return to their homes."

I'll send anyone a check for $100 if you can find this news story in any mainstream US news media. No...that would make the Palestinians seem too much like human beings. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Moderators lazarus Posted September 18, 2005 Moderators Share Posted September 18, 2005 I'm remided of the movie "the day after tomorrow" where Mexico has to absorb millions of American "refugees". The untra-conservatives like limbaugh, hannity etc hated the movie because it shows the US having to depend upon other poorer nations. Prov 16:18, Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. I guess they would say that the US shouldn't take it beause its money from terrorists! Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. K
Aldona, Have you heard in the main stream press that Mexico sent some troops to help. Have we heard the Bush actually accepted help from the big bad UN????Have we heard that Canada offered help from the beginning? Barely a mention of this stuff anywhere. Dr. Shane
"ultra conservatives"??? That sounds a little imflamatory. Please do tell. If Limbaugh and Hannity are "ultra conservative", who are the "ultra liberals"? To me, Limbaugh and Hanity are just regular conservatives. When we add the "ultra" label we start talking about those that embrace conspiracy theories and join this radical milita groups - like Timothy McVeigh. I heard about help from Mexico, UN and Canada on mainstream news. I have not heard anything on help from Palastinians. However I am now waiting for the Palastinians to start making a fuss over beiing called refugees. I guess they can't claim the term is only being used because they are black - since they aren't black. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane
Well, Sister Aldona, I hope you have ink in your pen and a checkbook near by. It seems the Associated Press ran the story and several local news agencies picked it up. Channel 10 out of Columbia SC reported on the story. Palestinian refugees give $10,000 to Katrina victims Channel 19 of Huntsville, Alabama picked up on it too. Palestinian refugees give ten-thousand dollars to Katrina victims Even here in Texas!!! Channel 6 of Waco/Temple Texas ran the story (and that is in the consevative part of Texas) Palestinian refugees give $10,000 to Katrina victims And Channel 11 from Toledo, Ohio ran it... Palestinian refugees give ten-thousand dollars to Katrina victims I could go on and on but the point is that the Associated Press ran the story and as a result, several local TV/radio stations and newspapers ran the story - even in conservative areas of the country. You can't get much more mainstream than the Associated Press. Derrell M
I also heard reported on our local news that Cuba offered medical teams, and on ABC I saw the Mexican military trucks coming across the border. They said that was the first time the Mexican military has crossed our border since 18??. As to use of Palestinian donations, a televangelist once said, "Wherever the money comes from, it all spends the same."
aldona
OK, you win...I've made my donation to ACS. That will teach me to make these sort of bets when I only have a limited range of US news services available. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music?
