Paul Beach Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Dear friends, The other day, Mrs. Gray was asked to hold a pair of glasses for an individual. Upon inspection, she noticed that the tips of the arms were covered with a gunky material, appearing not unlike that of mucous. Upon inquiry, the individual indicated that he frequently used the arms of his glasses to remove ear wax. While Mrs. Gray does not know whether the handling of such glasses would result in a biological disadvantage, she was quite disgusted by this fact. The individual told her this is a common thing among eyeglass wearers, but Mrs. Gray doubts it. He said that it is common in times when Q-tips are unavailable because of the proximity of the arms to the ear and the size. Mrs. Gray hopes he would not have done this while driving a motor vehicle, but she did observe a person doing just that after she started paying attention to this phenomenon. In any case, it makes a good subject for a poll. She will also include a section for sunglass wearers who presumably might probe their ears with the frames. Sincerely, Mrs. Gray Quote
Moderators LynnDel Posted September 23, 2005 Moderators Posted September 23, 2005 Mrs. Gray is seriously in need of a hobby. Might I suggest tatting? LD Quote LD

Ron Lambert Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Thanks, MG, for giving us an additional reason for wearing contacts. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted September 23, 2005 Moderators Posted September 23, 2005 Just eeewwww. Mrs Gray may need to find some more sanitary friends: and perhaps buy this guy a packet of Q-tips and an autoclave for his glasses... Quote Truth is important
bevin Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 "The only solid you should put in your ear is your elbow" Q-tips, glasses, etc. make the problem worse, not better. Use warm water, hydrogen peroxide, or one of the specially tested wax-melting oils. /Bevin ps: It is nice to see MG contributing to public education in such a critical aspect of the SDA health message. I expect to see her submitting an amendment to the Baptismal Certificate in time for the next GC. Quote
cricket Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 One of the most disgusting things in life is having to look at a person with visible earwax. If you don't use your elbow, use a cotton swab. If you don't use a cotton swab, use your finger tip. If you can't find your finger tip, use the end of a pen. If you can't find a pen, use your eye-glass arms. If you can't use your eye-glass arms, find Mrs. Gray and use hers! Here's to clean ears!! Quote

Administrators Gail Posted September 23, 2005 Administrators Posted September 23, 2005 So glad that I no longer wear glasses OR contacts! I had laser surgery one week ago and now have to find another way to clean my ears... aldona Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Dear Mrs Gray, I have found an interesting article in the learned publication "The Journal of Laryngology and Otology." It is entitled "Study of common aerobic flora of human cerumen." It is in the members-only database of the Royal Aust. College of GP's website so this link might not work, but I'll try posting it anyway. Article If you can't open the link, please PM me and I can post you a copy. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/tongue1.gif" alt="" /> I shared it at a recent journal club meeting that our clinic held. The other doctors were fascinated, charmed and delighted to learn so much more about ear wax. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Amelia Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I had a jr high teacher who cleaned his ears with his keys. He would do this in class while we were taking tests. Just gross. Paul Beach Posted September 24, 2005 Author Posted September 24, 2005 Dear friends, After reviewing the poll and comments, the thing that strikes Mrs. Gray is how few people do not have to wear glasses at all. Most of us seem to be sentenced to live our lives with this cursed prosthesis. Sincerely, Mrs. Gray Quote
