As long as you owe a debt to the bank or anyone, you are in bondage. You are a slave to the person whom you owe. It would be more difficult to prepare yourself and loved ones if you are focused on "paying your bills"; or so involved in "making a living" that you simply fail to see the signs of the times.

Um, if Jesus comes, what good is money?????

Maybe, Stan, you need to clarify when the "final days" are? A discription of when those "final days" would suffice, as well as a discription of "the last days" and if there is a difference between the two terms....

Ok, ....um....so what????

Why is it necessary to get rid of debt in the final days? And for that matter, WHO is gonna know that the days are final ones????

For me, being debt-free is a spiritual aspect of final preparations. In fact, it is a spiritual aspect of day-to-day living that is truly beneficial for one's spiritual journey. When one is debt-free, one needs not worry about paying for past purchases--one can concentrate his/her financial gains on more important things (like helping others).

IMO these kinds of 'practical' material preparations are almost pointless: it's going to get bad materially no matter how well or little we prepare. The only kind of preparations that really count are the spiritual ones, and they're happening right now. Believe it, any of us can be in the time of trouble any day - Sue's lung cancer last year, my Mum's leukemia, my borther's accidental death, our baby's malformation and death have all taught me this. If we're ready for those troubles, we're ready for the formal Time of Trouble, if we're not, we're not.

Truth is important

And while there are several astronauts still lingering around this world, I have yet to hear that American Express or Mastercard or Visa has gone after one of them....If I am one month or twelve months defaulted on payment on any bill after Jesus comes, I really doubt that anyone is gonna come after me for payment.... smile.gif

Yes, and Amen to that, Bravus.

I feel for what you've been through Bravus! Material concerns pale before the pain of grief and loss of life. It is the inner life where we have to prepare, and learn to lean on Jesus,so much more than the outer.

But in regard to material preparation, I and my neighbor have had some recent practice at that to pass on to anyone interested. I'm thinking of independence from the electric company, as calamities get worse and more frequent. Last year, when three hurricanes came thru, we were out of power for THREE weeks. Good thing we didn't live in an apartment complex or subdivision. We have 5 acres and a well and privacy of forest on all sides.

First, we used an eight man Hillary camping tent with a hole cut in the floor, for a modern "outhouse". You could kick it all around the pasture and use a shovel to dig a place, like a cat, you know. We ate only food that didn't require refrigeration. I cooked on a campfire with wood from the trees around the place.

Later, we got a small 1000 watt generator, and 2 gallons of gas would run the fan and TV all day. We saved gasoline in barrels with Stabil. It ran out of gas for the fan about 4 in the morning when it got cooler anyway. At night, we unhooked the generator from the TV and hooked it to the well pump so could take a shower. Then put it back on the fan. We have a pond too, and could have used it with more trouble and treatment, for washing clothes. So, that wasn't too bad. Not nearly as much suffering as those in apartments or homes with city water and sewer.

I've studied into the survival thing a lot, have a lot of good books on urban and wilderness survival. I do believe we should get into the rural areas. like EGW advises, to have more options. But eventually will have to lean on God almost entirely when we have no money at all after refusing the Mark. God has promised our food and water will be sure during the Time of Trouble. Read "Last Day Events" chapter 10 for important advice about this topic.

Debt Free?

File Chapter 7. Don't reaffirm anything. With the equity you receive from your home, if you have any, move into a small log cabin with no electricity. Put in a well and a hand operated pump.

You must do this as a squatter. No more Deed records. Start your garden. Yes, Fruits and vegetables and grains.

Sell all the books in the house except those that add value spiritually . How to garden, how to build a log cabin, how to can goods over an open fire, to how to manage body wastes could be valuable.

Shovels, rakes, push lawn mower and carpentry tools (hand operated of course) would be good.

I am seriously thinking this might not be such a bad move.

Hum.... No CA; no Internet to do my genealogy searches; no air conditioning or central heat; no microwave; no way to see my memories of the past because they are digital ... Printer, here I come.

Oh well, this is one way to do it. Let me think…. Solar power …

OK! It was just a thought. tomato.gif Still somehow it does sound good... I think I need Restins Books.

The greatest want of the world is the want of men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true & honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty..., men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.{Ed 57.3}

I read about a couple who built an earth home off the grid. They also didnt want to get rid of the computer. Somehow they rigged up a battery to an exercise bicycle and in order to power the computer, they would have to ride the bike X many minutes. Solar and wind also added to this battery and the whole house.

what we need is.......water! for the final days.

All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD

"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25

That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.

Our lives on earth are preparing us for the final days. Spiritually, physically, financially--all that we do affects our whole being. We need financial freedom just as much as we need physical fitness and spiritual fitness. It is the learning process--the journey--that helps us to grow and, ultimately, be "prepared" for the final days.

My wife and I are definitely trying to be debt free. I can forsee the government being able to exert extra pressure on you if you owe money. As the Bible says debt makes you into a slave. I believe that it is the Devils plan to get us so entangled with the material things of this life that it becomes impossible for us follow the Lords leading in so many ways when it comes to the end.

As SDA's we've often percieved that the time of trouble would be relatively short. I'm coming to believe that it may last years. In those years there will be a turning up of the pressure to conform. Pressure can easily be applied to us through our finances.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Water. Debt free. Solar and Wind power. Land...

You guys are falling into the same trap that you are trying to get out of ....you don't need things for your last days....

What you need to prepare is friends ...for the journy home...

You can't take solar power with you to heaven..you can not take water to heaven with you...you can not take a debt free legder with you....Cause when you get before the King of heaven, what are you going to say when He asks what you brought Him?

"Lord, I brought you myself and a debt free ledger!"... :eyerolls: That's real impressive guys...real impressive.... [shaking head and muttering to myself "what are these guys thinking???? It's "Who is the gospel for?", not "What is the gospel for?"}

Here's another good one:

"Lord, I brought you myself, but my husband couldn't make it. He worked himself to death trying to provide, but realized he just couldn't cut it. We owed too much."

"What's that?"

"Oh, yeah. I know I could've helped him. It's just that, well, I didn't think it was too important."

"...but Neil said..."

"Oh. Yes, Sir. Part of the journey. Yes, Sir. I see."

"What? Are you serious?! You mean, if I'dve helped him You would have blessed us more? You mean, if I'dve helped him to stay on track, to spend less money he would have had more time to attend to his relationship with You? You mean, that I might not be standing here alone today?"

"Whoa. Yes, Sir?"

"What do you mean I can't stay? Are you saying I have to leave?"

"...but Neil said..."

Making physical/lifestyle preparation does not mean that you can't witness/wins souls. In fact that kind of preparation can be a witness in itself.

I really don't see that.
