Members phkrause Posted October 5, 2013 Members Posted October 5, 2013 The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character,” writes Richard Dawkins.2 Dawkins implies that God is the better of tyrants such as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Ho Chi Minh, and Saddam Hussein. Truth be told, to the casual observer as well as the believer, the actions of God appear at times to be paradoxical. http://www.adventistreview.org/issue.php?issue=2013-1520&page=22 Quote phkrause Read Isaiah 10:1-13
Moderators Kevin H Posted October 5, 2013 Moderators Posted October 5, 2013 Richard Dawkins needs to take an Old Testament class. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted October 5, 2013 Moderators Posted October 5, 2013 The article only does the usual stuff, though. It requires already believing God can do no wrong to be able to consider all the wrong* he is depicted as doing in the OT as being not wrong. *If understood as 'if anyone else did it it would be wrong' Quote Truth is important
Windsor Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I recommend the book "Servants or Friends". http://www.pineknoll.org/graham/sof/ "Can God Be Trusted?" is good as well but there is no online version that I can find. Quote Remember Adventists Online?
LifeHiscost Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Quote: Truth be told, to the casual observer as well as the believer, the actions of God appear at times to be paradoxical. When one accepts the promise: "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."Romans 8:28 NASB the key of course "to know", which implies we've taken advantage of the opportunity to become acquainted with Him. "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened." Romans 1:18-21 NASB Perhaps just letting God be Who He is would be a more simple way of putting it. God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
