Stan
The man who was instrumental in establishing The Review and Herald Publishing Association in Hagerstown in the 1980s expressed heartache Thursday night over the possibility that the sprawling printing facility for the Seventh-day Adventist Church could be closed. Bud Otis, who was once president of the operation, said during a prayer meeting at the Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church on Robinwood Drive that the plant had special designs to allow it to be expanded over the years. Members rudywoofs (Pam)
wait a minute...the article says no final decision has been made about closing it.. did I miss something?? Johann
Will forum like this take its place? In some countries in Northern Europe our SDA printing presses had to close down several years ago. Now our publications are printed by others and it seems much cheaper than running our own printing shops. Is this the case in North America as well? Where do yo get your paper printed, Stan? Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted May 10, 2014 Moderators Share Posted May 10, 2014 Isn't the possible (not final) plan to maintain two editorial departments and have one combined publishing plant? IOW, the one publishing plant would print the material for both Pacific Press and the Review. Quote Gregory
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 10, 2014 Administrators Share Posted May 10, 2014 After all the repeated studies over the years that consistently have pointed to the need to move in this direction this appears to actually be the first real administrative steps to move in that direction. Currently both publishing/printing facilities are working far below full capacity. (Based on current levels, the combined work of both would still not bring either to full capacity if done in just one or the other.). Both are structurally operating under the control of the GC. Just to get the implementation of the proposal rolling, it has to go through the approval process of no less than seven organizational bodies for approval/recommendation onward to the next. It has now gone through 3. Under the current proposal, R&H will continue as a publishing entity moving to the the GC headquarters and Pacific Press will take over the print and distribution for both. The more clear focus of each going forward for publishing will be that R&H will do publications for worldwide distribution and Pacific Press will focus on publishing just for North America. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.) Moderators Kevin H Posted May 12, 2014 Moderators Share Posted May 12, 2014 But why do I have a knot in my stomach feeling that someone is going to buy the Review presses and do with them what we should have been doing and make a lot of money from what we do for high prices and a loss, and as we move further into the 7th head where the beast is having more control over who buys and sells we will have a harder job getting the message out. The second is likely and I have a gut feeling about the first that I hope is wrong.
CGMedley
Perhaps this article from the Adventist Review will further explain the situation. http://www.adventistreview.org/church-news/proposed-statement
