Moderators james423 Posted June 20, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 20, 2014 I ran across something rather interesting about Germany and World War II the other day. In a video lecture series, Thomas Childers of the University of Pennsylvania made the comment several times that while the United States and other Allied countries were producing all they could by working their factories 24/7/365 and using women and everyone else to make as much as they could, Hitler's Germany was actually on a peacetime footing with most of the home routines continued as usual except for the young men sent off to fight. The Germans, of course, used prisoners of all kinds to take the place of those men called to war. This "peacetime footing" idea was a new one to me.
