Sojourner Posted September 10, 2015 Share Posted September 10, 2015 I appreciate the point that they are trying to make, yet there is no mention of the various tribal and demographic conflicts that have fanned the flames of the violence. Assad's Alawite sect are a minority, they then have Sunni and Shia muslims who are in conflict with one another, Druze, Christians, Yazidi's, Kurds and various other minorities who often live in segregation. ISIS support the Sunni muslims with the intention of genocide on the Yazidi's and Christians, The Shia's are supported by Hezbollah to attack the Sunni / ISIL muslims. Russia wants the port in Syria for its own interest, Russia are in conflict with Turkey who stream ISIL militants into the country, Turkey kill the Kurds in Syria, the Kurds support Russia.. Clear as mud? As for drought, desalination plants are common place in the middle east, for this very reason and this has been the case for a number of years now.
