Dr. Shane
Amelia, I clicked on your anti-minutement link and at the top of the page it says... "No One Is Illegal" With that attitude, no wonder they don't like the Minutemen. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators Bravus Posted January 24, 2006 Moderators Share Posted January 24, 2006 Sid got my little joke. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> They are also small in number, and I think Shane is right to say that they're not KKK-like and that in the main they're not racist. On the other hand, I do wonder whether they've thought about who would do all the worst jobs in parts of Texas and southern California if the flow across the border was staunched. I speak from experience as an Asian who has lived in the south. And in this day and age, where knowledge has increased, I don't understand why anyone would want to brandish that flag unless it was with hurtful intentions. Dr. Shane
I have known people that use the flag and they are typically old, country hicks. The stero-typical, Dukes of Hazzard, hay-seed boys. Many of them are racists. Yet there are some that view it as a statement of rebellion against big government. When it came up to vote a few years ago in Mississippi, the people voted nearly 2:1 to keep the confederate flag as part of their state flag. I have a hard time believing all those people were racists. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane
On my way home from work this evening I passed a guy with the confederate flag painted on the side of his pick-up. He was a Mexican-American, I doubt he is a racist. The black population in this area is less than 1%. I doubt it was an in-your-face to blacks. I think it was just Southern pride. Administrators Naomi Posted January 25, 2006 Administrators Share Posted January 25, 2006 just tacking on here ............ having been in Jackson a few days ago and go there on business for several days at a time, several times a year, I must say that yes, perhaps it is different. Everyplace on the face of this old ball of mud has it's own unique social situations. Right, wrong, or indifferent that is the way it is and the way it will be until we see our Lord's Appearing in the Clouds Of Glory. Yes, laws can be passed, people can protest and things will improve. As with everything, we as individuals can and must be responsible for our attitudes and actions.
