Fund-raising gone wrong

Recommended Posts

I have been fund-raising, mainly among our own Adventist people, for funds to send a young mother to USA for a life-saving operation. So far I have managed to raise the initial $A15,5000 to book a date for the operation, and we have $A11,500 left to raise. Someone suggested that I ask the Rotary Clubs, as they do a lot of fund-raising. I emailed some of them, and now someone from one of the clubs has dobbed me in to a Government Department for fund-raising without a licence! I didn't know I needed one just emailing my friends!

Please pray that God will overrule in this one. He has been there for us all the way through, and everytime a difficulty has arisen, a way has opened, and I don't believe that it is His will now that she just be left to die. Time is against us in this, so I am asking for your prayers.

Beryl,

I have read with dismay your post. I will most definitely remember you and your plight to our Father. 1_prayer001.gif

Beryl,

"An enemy hath done this."

Find out if you do, indeed, need to apply for a license; if what you are doing does legally qualify as "fund raising" in the license-able sense. Meanwhile we shall pray for the Lord to show Himself strong to deliver you.

Heavenly Father, we come before You to Your throne of grace to present a need on behalf of our dear sister Beryl. Lord, You know this Your daughter has been seeking to gather financial support for a lady in dire need of an operation to save her life, and now she has run into trouble with her government as a result. Dear Lord, we know You have asked us to respect the laws of the nation in which we live, but You also know Beryl had no intention of violating the law, only of helping this woman in need. Please show Yourself mighty and merciful to her and hasten to her aid, Lord. Please guide those in charge of handling the matter and pour Your Holy Spirit upon them that they will be led to be merciful toward Beryl and not lay any grievous burden or punishment upon her. Open their hearts, Lord, and grant them compassion for this case. And Lord please help Beryl to be able to do whatever she needs to do in order to continue this good work You have started in her, and to gather the necessary finances needed for this other sister's operation. Please be near to the woman in need and keep Your healing, life-saving hand upon her, and guide her safely to recovery and to any medical attention she might need, I pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank you, so much, everyone. I have heard from a wellknown (in Perth) Catholic ex-priest who also does a great work, and he thinks he can get me a "sponsor" who may also be able to help out financially. Apart from that, I have not heard anything from the person (Donna) who contacted me. She was going to talk to the ADRA man at the Conference Office, but he was tied up with appointments all day -- so she has just had to wait! It would takes months to go through the process of obtaining a licence, and so I have no intention of doing that.

In the meantime I have emailed many of my friends to tell them what has happened, and attached a "Fact Sheet" which they are welcome to pass on to THEIR friends!

As I have thought about this, I consider that the case would not stand up in court, as I have not been publicly fundraising, standing on a street corner shaking a can, or anything else, and I can account for all the money that has come in. And, just maybe, it has taken this to take this case outside the circle of my friends to people (hopefully with money) that I would not have been able to contact without this "hiccup"!

Thanks for your prayers, and I will keep in touch.

God bless,

Beryl
