Kevin M. Burton has written an article titled:  "Bonus History Lesson, God's Last Choice:  Overcoming Ellen White's Gender & Women in Ministry During the Fundamentalist Era."

This article has been published in Spectrum, Vol. 45, combined Issues 2 & 3.

There is much in this 22 page article what will be of value to people regardless of their personal position on female ordination.

*  On July 27, 1867, James White became the first SDA minister to ordain a woman to clergy states when he ordained Philip & Louisa Strong as SDA ministers.

Quote

There was a time in which local churches were governed congregationally and in which a local conference, a union, or a General Conference, had no authoritative control over their daily operations.. . . This was a time in which Adventists, and their churches, were  autonomous and united.  Page 148

Quote

If a state conference adopted a resolution that fell outside of its jurisdiction, then the local churches in that territory had the authority to ratify, amend, or reject that resolution,  The local church was "congregational in its government" and strictly protected by Adventist Church policy.  Page 150

NOTE:  There is much more of interest.
