Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 31, 2017 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2017 In another thread, comments have been made as to the human element in inspired writings--how inspired writers may have been influenced by their cultures. As has been suggested, this would include Ellen White. For people interested in this, the following book, although old, deals extensively with society and culture in the time of EGW. Gary Land, Editor. The World of Ellen G. White. Review & Herald, 1987, 253 pages. This book may be purchased on Amazon, for $5 and up. See: https://www.amazon.com/World-Ellen-G-White/dp/0828003955/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1504186880&sr=8-3&keywords=the+world+of+ellen+g+white+g+white This book is written by some 14 different historians, generally PhD. It does not have EGW as a subject and seldom mentions her. Further, it does not deal with the issue as to how the culture of her time may have influenced her. Rather, it deals with societal issues that may have been important to EGW and to place those potential concerns within the larger context of the society in which she lived. I consider this book to be of immense value in understanding much of what EGW wrote. phkrause and LifeHiscost 2 Quote Gregory
