Here in Australia American speakers have a reputation for talking at length and saying nothing of importance. We are more accustomed to listening to British and Australian people who have read widely and give a great deal of thought to their subject, dividing their talk into a succinct introduction followed by well-defined sub-titles and ending with a short summary. Lectures padded with a barrage of words that go on forever are regarded as a waste of time, even, irritating.
