One of the issues is that the author has spent his life in a relationship with the SDA denomination while at the same time has experienced a relationship that has been painful at times. Another is that as a now retired PhD. profession of the Sociology of Religion he has authored a number of publications on the SDA denomination. Personally, I consider his writings on the SDA Church in Europe during the time of Hitler to be of value.
