because he spoke against division, hate, and violence, and advocated respect, equality and peace .... which didn't resonate with those who felt that others who didn't look like them, sound like them, or dress like them, weren't as "good" as they were, and didn't *deserve* to be part of the Declaration of Independence words that state, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that All Men are Created Equal."

Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup.

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Same reason why prophets, our Lord, Abraham Lincoln died, Anwar Sadat and Mahatma Gandhi. They stood up for the best in people. We all have two attitudes fighting inside of us. Our sinful nature, a disposition to think that we are for ourselves by making less of the outside world. To serve self, to seek the highest place to put down others. And our deepest desire, a gift God gave us in Genesis 3:15, the desire to be like and with Jesus. To love the world on an honest basis as he has loved it.

Sometimes when our sinful nature gets so strongly attacked the people and encourages the best in us to come out, it becomes quite uncomfortable for some people. People like Eli Siegel and William Glasser had to face a lot of ignoring by the press. People like Prophets or Lincoln and even someone as wishy washy but who was still more open to our deepest desire than a lot of people, John and Robert Kennedy ending up loosing their lives for at least considering the truth in a deeper way than a lot of people do.
