Leadership

Today, SDA members are asking what do we want in our elected leaders,  The following comes from a non-religious setting.  But, I happen to believe that it has some meaning for us today:

*  Honesty:  This is the foundation of all trust.

*  Reliability:  Honesty and Reliability go hand in hand.  Honesty is saying what you will do and Reliability is actually doing it.

* Competence:  The ability, based upon knowledge, skills, attitudes, relationships and judgment to accomplish the task.

*  Compassion:  This is to recognize and respect the humanity of subordinates.  Without this, subordinates will not give of  their best.

The above was taken from:  Pete Kilner, "Four Factors Make A Trusted Leader,"  Military Officer, July 2018, Page 28.

It should be noted that Lt. Col Pete Kilner formerly served as a professor at the J.S. Military academy, at  West Pont, where he taught ethics and led the Center for the Advancement of Leader Development and Organizational Learning.
