Members rudywoofs (Pam)
If anyone has a spare minute, I have a prayer request.. for me. I've been having some off-the-wall health issues, and finally went to see the doc today. His first hunch is that I have an autoimmune disease that's destroying my thyroid. His second guess would be ovarian cancer. They're doing a lab work-up and I should know the results in 2-3 days. In the meantime, I'm kinda stressing out.. So, any prayers would be very much appreciated. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others? Moderators Nan Posted June 26, 2006 Moderators Share Posted June 26, 2006 Of course I will pray for you, Pam. That is a diverse diagnostic option - and the first would be much easier to treat than the second. Please keep us updated.

Members rudywoofs (Pam)
Thanks for the prayers guys. Just got some lab results from my doc. Good news is that it isnt ovarian ca. Bad news is that my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is way over 100 (the normal range is around 0.4-4.0) which apparently means I have severe hypothyroidism. And have to take meds for the rest of my life. But I guess that's okay because I've been one very sick little cookie lately.. Thanks again for the prayers! Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Administrators Gail Posted June 28, 2006 Administrators Share Posted June 28, 2006 So glad that they found out what it was, and that it is treatable! PTL that it isn't cancer!!! Moderators Nan Posted June 28, 2006 Moderators Share Posted June 28, 2006 Great news, Pam. Once you get stabilised on the medication, you will probably realise how unwell you have been recently . Aliensanctuary
Before my wife was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and depression, she was the wife from hell. She said at times she felt like she was going to explode. I finally had enough of the personal attacks and moved out. I lived in my pickup truck for about 2 months. After she connected with a doctor and a psychiatrist who put her on meds, I moved back in and we started repairing our relationship. Now she does pretty good. Just occasional adjustments to the synthroid and the depression meds. She has a few bad days from time to time, but it's nothing we can't live with. We hope you will be OK. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted June 28, 2006 Moderators Share Posted June 28, 2006 Pam: Many people have to take Synthroid, for the rest of thier lives. It is not that bad. That condition seems to affect many people. It is a far better choice than the second posibility. Thanks to God that it was not that. Administrators Gail Posted June 28, 2006 Administrators Share Posted June 28, 2006 I think that is the same medication my husband is on. Amelia
Hey Pam, I have Graves disease and had to have my thyroid nuked years ago. I have been on Levoxyl ever since. Basically the pill is putting back in the hormones that now non functioning thyroid used to produce. Just remember that even though they burn out the thyroid it doesnt mean you are cured. You will still have the autoimmune disease and all that it entails. A really good book I got was called "THE THYROID SOURCEBOOK FOR WOMEN" by M. Members rudywoofs (Pam)
Thanks guys! I was pretty scared. I guess it will take about a month for any noticeable symptom changes. Then more labwork and readjust dosages. ::sigh:: I keep wondering if I took a little more than they said, maybe symptoms would get better faster? (No, I won't take more...it just seems like it would work, though) Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. aldona
Whether you take a big or small dose of thyroid hormone, it takes some time for the body to "re-balance" itself and the levels in the blood to change. What I find in practice is that regardless of the dose that I give a patient, there is no point doing another blood test before about 4-6 weeks. If you replace thyroid function too quickly, you can actually put too much strain on the heart and I have heard of a few people who developed heart palpitations or even had a heart attack from too much thyroid hormone too soon. So I know it must be a drag, but hang in there...and I'll keep praying for you too! aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music?
