Amelia
Poppy called me Friday to tell me he had gone in for his yearly physical and they found his heart wasn't working quite right. The dr took some blood and did an electrocardiogram. The cardiologist didnt like the reading and apparently his blood was too thick. Poppy had already had a minor stroke several yrs ago so they put him on warfarin to thin the blood and stave off another. Well then they got his blood too thin and couldnt get a BP reading. So now poppy is off the warferin and goes in Tues for another blood test and then later for an echocardiogram. Early theory is that poppy has atrial fibrillation. Well poppy thinks he is dying for sure and wont see his next birthday. He just turned 82 in Aug. So I spent all day Saturday with him and my stepmon, just being there seemed to ease him some. I explained that most likely they wont "crack"(his words and worry) open his chest for this and just use drugs. Poppy is adament that no one "crack" him open. Mom Ethel just replies "you will do anything the dr says you need". She has a quite the list of things for them to do and she intends for poppy to stay around to do them. Also she went through valve replacement 2 yrs ago and came through with flying colors. Anyway, one thing poppy kept saying while I was there was "Why did this have to happen now when they were having so much fun and traveling around?" They both attend church and bible lessons but I am not certain how much faith my poppy has. And I was not able to answer his question other than to tell him to pray and listen for an answer. Poppy and I are two different beliefs and I try never to impose my thoughts of death on his. It would be great if prayers could be said for poppys faith and trust in Our Lord to strengthen and bring him the calming Holy Spirit. He tires very easily and is a stubborn muleheaded man who wont sit down to save his life. Pockey
I'm praying too Ameila. That's a tough situation for you to be in, and I understand his frustration.
