Amelia
Girl, 14, quizzed over MySpace anti-Bush page Ananova.com 17th October 2006 A US girl of 14 was dragged out of class by Secret Service agents for calling President Bush an idiot on her MySpace page. Julia Wilson's internet page, called "So Bush is an idiot but hey what else is new?", infuriated security experts, reports the Mirror. She also posted the words "Kill Bush" and ran a cartoon of a knife stabbing the hand of the president. Two federal agents went searching for Julia at her home before finding the teenager at school in Sacramento, California. After pulling her out of class, they subjected her to a 20-minute interview. Julia said: "I told them I just really don't agree with Bush's politics. I do not have any plans of harming Bush in any way. I am very peaceful. I just don't like Bush." She said the agents warned her she could be locked up for making the threat. Dad Jim Moose added: "I don't condone what she did, but it seems a little over the top. You'd think they could determine that she's not a credible threat." Neil D
Quote: . You'd think they could determine that she's not a credible threat." Wow, a 14 year old girl, a threat to the president...Ok, welll not a threat in the sense that she is going to physically harm him....but had to be hauled out of class and interogated by the Secret Service...Oh, come on, guys! There are better ways to discipline a wayward 14 for saying things that she shouldn't. I can see it now.... Bush, cruising the internet, contacts Rumsfelt complaining about this 14 girl for critizing the President. Bush: Rummy, I need this girl lock up for saying bad things about me.. Rumsfelt: Uh, George, I don't think that's necessary, do you? Bush: Of course it is!. Why should she be spreading all these half truths about me and poluting the minds of her fellow 14 year old? Rumsfelt: Well, she's not a voter, is she? Bush: That doesn't matter. She might influence her parents! Can't have that now, can we? Rumsfelt: Well, we cann't lock her up.... Bush: Well, I suppose we can't...But we can intimidate her a bit. Let's send a couple of SS men. They are bored as heck and need something to do...Besides, if they ruffed her up a bit, maybe someone might take a pot shot at me, and get the SS men something to do... Administrators Naomi Posted October 21, 2006 Administrators Share Posted October 21, 2006 Good conversation Neil. Seriously, this is one more example of how we should all be careful of the content of our comments on the world-wide web. {Big Brother Is Watching} Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

Administrators Naomi Posted October 21, 2006 Administrators Share Posted October 21, 2006 It is not legal to make a life-threatening threat against anyone. "I'll kill you" is something that can be reported to the police and the individual making the statement can be prosecuted. The President is simply higher profile. Interesting that it didn't work. This happened a couple of months in the town where I live and the lady was jailed and is awaiting a court date. There were witnesses, don't know if that is necessary. Dr. Shane
I don't know what freedoms are being given away. When I was in college I knew a guy in AA that had been arrested for making terroristic threats. What did he do? He left a note on his ex-girlfriend's windshield that he was going to kill her. Should such a note be covered under freedom of speech? Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... bevin
As a general rule, it is obvious that the TSA, the Secret Service, the FBI, and other similar govt agencies are stupid. They create dumb rules that don't stop the behaviour they are claimed to stop, and then apply them in weird and wacky ways without even a modicum of common sense. It is because it is all media-related theater, and nothing to do with the real issues. Exactly like when Bush toured New Orleans etc after the hurricane, and they were setting up photo-ops of things happening, and as soon as he moved on they stopped happening. /Bevin
Neil D
I was told all threats to the President are taken seriously. It is like talking about hyjacking a plane in an airport. As well all threats should.... However, once a threat is determined to be non-serious, then you don't waste the time and money and manpower of the federal goverment on non-serious threats. And a 14 year old girl in school, in this case, doesn't constitute a threat to the president of the United STates. Handling these things is probably better done thru the school or local police. Not thru a public situtation with the secret service. Just like the Iraq war, it is poor handling of the situation. Worse, in that, it invovles a child. Did you see where the federal marshals, who [supposedly] secretly ride the airplanes, are targets and exposed ? The procedure whereby they are given rides to avert possible highjackings, are so public, that the public riding the airplanes KNOWS who the marshals are...They are set up as the first targets to be removed from the plane. And the buck stops with Bush.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Dr. Shane
I certainly am not going to disagree that the Federal Government is inefficient. That is why it is best to have local governments do all they can before tasks are assigned to the state or federal government. However the job of the Secret Service is to protect the President. That is not something to be taken care of by Barney Fife and company. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane
Quote: This is a truely dumb name for what they do - which also involves currency fraud and other stuff too. Well we agree on that. However I do see a need for protecting the President and don't have a problem with them following up on all threats. Yes, He is the President and yes, if he has special protection than should any member of the federal government should be included ... OTOH, are they more important than your child or myself if someone threatened us? We are good enough for the local police to investigate. It's not until we are a missing person, aken across state lines, etc that the Feds become involved.
