Parade Orange
Its awful! Just ahh-full! I cant believe i was put in this position. I am getting to know a wonderful choleric nail biting woman who is my age. She and her hunter easygoing poster husband and me and my buddy are enjoying each others company more and more. She is a close friend of my sister. Their husbands( my big little brother )and him are hunting buddies as well as enjoy other proclivities together. my dear sweatheart (who is struggling with breast cancer) dramatic and bossy sister in law with whom I have known extremely well since she was 14 in high school and my favorite and only brother just moved out of the area last fall and we all miss them... Parade Orange
Oh how I miss my favorite and only brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyhoo a few weeks ago the nailbiter mentioned to me that her poster husband hunts squirrel. I exxxxxxpressed my revulsion and humour of eating squirrels and we all laughed cause in real life im a riot and a half. so I didnt think anymore of it till I realized that she might make me some unexpectedly some time when I and my little buddy visit. I told my little buddy my fears and he said All I have to be is straight and tell her my kosher diet lifestyle and she will respect that ,right? So we came by one afternoon and she had yummy rodent squirrel in the pot with dumplings and marojam(cant spell that spice or herb). Oh uh! I never thought I would be in this position! we talked and and laughed and talked about my brother and his lovely wife(who is threw with chemo and now going into radiation but the doctors say even Nowthat they cant find her cancer! praise GOD) and she told me I had to try her broth! oo yummy got out her nice soup bowl and dished up a Big Heaping portion of squirrel meat, broth, and dumplings(with mariojam). Parade Orange
so I consented (with much revulsion and such inside) to try the broth. Oh yummy a rodent bath boil water with maryjam. so I tried it. I didnt die and Im still here to talk about it. "I shant think of it again." My little buddy (who is SDA) went at those dumplings like his blood sugar was dropping. I never thought in my life I would be wrestled down to the ground by a nail biter. Parade Orange
BTW I had the tiniest drop at the end of the tiniest spoon with the tiniest of tiniest barely there sliver of rodent. And even though I have to say... that it was the most amazing taste sensation that tingled all of my alimentry canal .. I will never ever hope to go thru that again! Dr. Shane
I have eaten squirrel and rabit too. I ate bear when I was real young. I completely understand why these meats are not on the commercial market. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Administrators Naomi Posted October 27, 2006 Administrators Share Posted October 27, 2006 Thank you Neil for clarification of the proper Monster-talk. ) If anyone becomes hungry for squirrel meat ... come to my house or the farm and you can have all the squirrel you want for the cost of the trip, and ammo... just don't shoot the cattle! On second thought, if you remove the squirrels I can probably find enough neighbors to pay the cost of your transportation. Yu’ll come on down, ya’ hear Oh dear ... do we have any "Squirrel Rights Activists here?" Halfstep Denise
Hi, Gay4Jesus! Curiosity killed the Cat - that's why I read this thread! But I'm not sure that reading it right after eating a NICE breakfast was such a smart thing to do! I do know what to read now if I am trying to leave the food alone and lose some weight! Can't Squirrels spread Rabies? Seems that would be one of many reasons not to eat them!! While living in Alaska and in a Rehab Center, I was offered Moose Stew as a snack! I turned it down, suddenly feeling like I would have been eating Bullwinkle! Anyway, I hope you don't suffer any adverse reactions to the stew! Parade Orange
Yes strange decision and choice I made for the sake of friendship I knew what was going to possibly happen before it happened. Never in a million years did I know it would be presented like this. I have temptations in my life that would astound half of the human race but eating delicious wholesome nut filled food of the gods(small 'g')rodent. Dottie
Aw, don't worry about it. Before my parents were SDA we lived on a small farm. Dad would kill rabbit, Mom would cook rabbit. It's over. Tell the girl that you did smething that you didn't really want to, and you don't really plan on it again. Either she'll understand and still be your friend, or she won't (either of the above). If she's got a sense of humor--which she probably does, since she coooked you the stew--she laughed when you were gone! But I do know how you feel; the smae thing has been done to me more than once. Small consolation, right? I've been a vegetarian since I was eight, when neither of my parents were.

Jerry D Thomas
My grandparents often had fried squirrel meat with eggs for breakfast when I was a child. It was not uncommom in the rural south. In their younger days, hunting squirrel and rabbit was part of process of providing food for the family. If you didn't get a deer or have a pig ready for slaughter, dinner was whatever you shot.
