Would you like to write to a soldier?

Check out this website. http://www.soldiersangels.org/adopt_a_soldier.php

We just adopted a deployed soldier.

I also have friend whose husband has been working as a contractor in Iraq and other countries in that region of the world and let me tell you, any word from home, from their homeland, from anyone who will write is very much appreciated, even if they don't have the time to write back.

This Christmas, why not give a soldier the gift of friendship?

  • 3 weeks later...

Two days ago we just heard back from our soldier as we gave him our email address! It was SO great to hear from him. His letter began with "I can't begin to tell you how much your letters have meant to me..."

So thanks GodsOath for adopting a soldier! I was told that since people are getting "weary of the war" it is harder to find people to write to the soldiers than say "right after 9/11". Whether the war is warranted or not, is not for me to decide for anyone else...but I think that regardless of anyone's position, the soldiers need to know that people back home care about them especially during this holiday season when they are so far from home.

I just put in for an adoption and will soon find out if its a boy or a girl. :CD I was looking over the suggested care package items list and was rather tickled to see that one of the most requested items was..............TOILET PAPER!!!!!!!!! scared

Cool Amelia! And don't be surprised if your soldier is 18 or 60. They have people of all ages that are deployed.

I am shipping a care package off to my soldier, including a magazine on Soccer as I found out he is an avid Soccer fan.

It's fun to got get little things that they so appreciate.

I was told it isn't often you will hear back from your soldier as sometimes they are so busy and stressed and tired, they barely have time to call home, much less write anyone. But if you get so fortunate as we have...you will enjoy hearing from your soldier.

Thanks for adopting a soldier Amelia! He/She will appreciate it alot I am sure!

Saw this posted on the soldier's angels website from a soldier who has an 'adopted army Mom' angel.

Dear "Army Mom,"

Just wanted to take a second to tell you what happened in Iraq today. It was raining - and I was just coming in to my headquarters when when I passed by one of my newer soldiers - an immigrant from the former Soviet Union - and one of my BEST privates.

I was stopped in my tracks, for behold - on such a dreary day he was smiling. I was being funny (at first) and I said "awww you got a package with some goodies? Who sent that to you?" And as I expected to hear him say "my mom (or something like that)" he turned his face to me and said "I don't know...." he had a smile on his face.....and as I saw his eyes glazing he said " ...that's why I was smiling" and at that my eyes began to glaze too.

I can never take for granted their service, not for one minute - not for one second. And now...even in a hell hole like this - God has sent yet another Angel.

I'll bet you didn't know that did you? How truly amazing - how close we come to God in such a far away place.

And how silly I am for thinking that this private's safety is for me only to keep. Seems there are many who share this burden-and make me sleep sound.

You made one of my soldiers smile today - sitting there by himself - and for that, you have touched my soul.

I'd thank you, but that's not why Angels do what they do (I know). So instead I'll just say - Well Done! You can rest easy, message received. And I'll do my best to bring them home. I owe God one ;-)

Thank you from my soul,PS From the Fourth Army son of a mom like you no doubt

Ok, semi stupid question. And I would ask this on the Angels forum but I registered and haven't been authorized yet.

My soldiers last name may or may not be jewish. You know, sounds like it could be but may not be. Anyway, would you send a Christmas pkg and risk offending or just send a general care pkg? Holiday card or no? Arrrgggg I just got him and now Im afraid of being a bad adoptive mother.

I just sent my young(?) man a holiday care pkg. It was just too fun picking out the goodies for him. I really hope he likes what I sent. Plus I hope it make it there all in one piece.

Ok Ladies, where are your boys stationed? Mine is in Iraq and from what I can decifer from my info, he is based out of Balad air base. I didn't know that the air force trained ground forces and attached them to the Army. Learn something new every day.

You two are a riot! I am sure your new boys will really appreciate the attention you are giving to them. Keep writing to them as well. Even if they are so busy and stressed and exhausted that they can't respond, trust me they will appreciate your efforts in their behalf. I hope you are fortunate as I was to have yours write back!

We are excited! Jumping up and down! Is this how Sarah felt? To think that our age - which is ....old....we are adopting! With a 9 year old granddaughter next door, who has already asked me if we could make some cookies to send to the soldiers, our soon-to-be adopted soldier is on his way to being spoiled! Thank you for supply this web site address. We found a site a few weeks back and sent a pre-made gift box, but that wasn't very satisfying. Can't wait!

Sad news on the tube this evening. Reporters were interviewing soldiers about their Christmas/other packages and how they really help moral. In talking with one soldier he said he was told that his package was blown up in transent. How awful. All I could think of was, that could be my boy. I would hate to find out that my love had not reached him. You could tell this young man was upset and trying to put on a brave face. We all have to remember how young most of our boys and girls in service really are.
