Computer crash

One of our retirees in our conference has an e-mail ministry and was going to start a series on our doctrines last Friday when his computer crashed and had to be taken in for repair.

He hopes that he hasn't lost his hard drive with all his lectures

He has asked for prayer

THanks

EVERYBODY

Go to a computer-h/w store near you

Buy a cheap (<$100) USB flash drive

Use it to back up anything you really care about

There are far too many ways to accidently loose a set of files on a computer to risk everything on a single harddrive

1 - you can save changes you didn't want

2 - you can delete files

3 - virusses can delete files

4 - hard drives can fail

Yes, thanks, Bevin. I mentioned to this man about getting himself a memory stick

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Does the price or brand matter? I looked on Amazon and they have a lot of different brands, some as low as $19.99 Is 1GB ok or do I need more?

They are all much the same - the external appearance varies a lot more than the important stuff inside. Do get one that looks fairly robust - you aren't buying a woman's wrist-watch :-)

1Gb is way more than you probably need, unless you are keeping videos or thousands of photos. If you are doing that, you should get yourself an external USB hard drive. Those have about 250Gb for about $100-$200.

For those who care, here is exactly what I do

(a) installed a second 250Gb internal hard drive

(B) use Roxio Easy Media Creator's backup software to backup MyDocuments to a folder on it regularly

© Copy the Roxio backup files from the 250Gb to an Lacie external USB hard drive - about the size of a pack of cards

but I am paranoid, and have photos, videos, a variety of documents, software I have bought on line and downloaded, etc. so my backups total about 15Gb.

I use a full backups about once a month, and incremental backups when I have made changes I don't want to loose.

The biggest risk in this approach is loosing files that you don't even known you have lost, and then when you go looking for them years later you have not kept even their backup. The only solution for this is to back up to a CD/DVD about once a year.

If you need a memory sick etc, be sure and get it through the amazon link on the left. We only need 171 more items now to get the next level of commission,

Only 171 :( how said is that? :)

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.
