You all wanna ed-u-ma-cate this yank on who this ....um turkey is and where he got his views? Or should we take a lesson from the hive....when the queen is not laying well, the hive chooses another queen...Maybe the muslim community can take a lesson from the hive? January 12, 2007 08:42am Article from: AAP AUSTRALIA'S mufti, Sheik Taj al-Din al-Hilali, should "keep his mouth shut", NSW Community Relations Commission (CRC) chairman Stepan Kerkyasharian said today. The mufti said in an interview on Egyptian television that Australian Muslims were more entitled to the country than those with a convict heritage. He also revoiced his view that the furore which engulfed him when he likened women to uncovered women was a conspiracy, and that Australian courts were anti-Muslim. While Prime Minister John Howard and Foreign Minister Alexander Downer have laughed off the sheik's words, Mr Kerkyasharian was not amused. "To go overseas and say there is no freedom for Muslims in Australia is absolutely outrageous and I'm sure that the vast majority of Muslims in Australia do not agree with him," Mr Kerkyasharian said on Macquarie radio. "They would rather have him shut his mouth and not say any of these things." Mr Kerkyasharian urged the Muslim community to consider whether the controversial cleric was the right man to lead them. "We (the CRC) have got a position of saying we accept the community as they are, but they (the Muslim community) really have to think about it," Mr Kerkyasharian said. "(Sheik Hilali) is a man who purports to be the leader of the Muslim community and he is doing the community a gross injustice. "It's about time we all united together and said to this guy: 'Enough is enough, keep your mouth shut and sit back in your chair'. Moderators Nan Posted January 12, 2007 Moderators Share Posted January 12, 2007 This man is based at the Lakemba mosque in Sydney, where the members are mostly from Lebanon. A few years ago the Islamic Council of Australia - not the official title but that is the general idea - decided this man would be the chief mufti of the Muslims in Australia. He apparently has done quite a bit of good in his community but when he opens his mouth, he seems to get his foot firmly stuck. Well not firmly enough I guess as the words still keep flowing around it. Other Muslim leaders admit how difficult he makes thing for the rest.
