Whites the REAL minority ?

Woody

Recommended Posts

Courtland Milloy from the Washington Post wrote an article in the Sunday Paper. It was titled Sharpton revelation worthy of a big yawn.

It was a very interesting read. It made a number of interesting statements. I will post just a few.

Some black Americans ... and we are not talking about "black" people who knowingly pass for white ... have less DNA admixture of African ancestral origin than do some so-called "white" Americans. This was discovered by historian Frank Sweet and can be seen in backintyme.com/Essay040608.htm .

Also ... Only 1 percent of Americans are "White". According to the 2004 Census about ...

23 % are German Americans

16 % are Irish Americans

13 % are English Americans

10 % are African Americans

6 % are Italian Americans

1 % are White Americans

Who are the REAL minorities?

I can tell you who the ones are that are discriminated against by Affirmitive Action legislation and rules that are enforced in this country.

Since I am part White and Irish ... I would like to claim my share of discrimination. Can I have a total of 17% ?

I am sorry the article didn't list the percentage of Swiss/Swedish Americans so I could really see how much I am discriminated against.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

I am sure that whites are descriminated against, but I can tell you, where I live, that often Mexicans are treated as if they aren't as intelligent as the whites, simply because they don't speak as high flutent of English as the white person. That bothers me, because I see them as such hardworking basically good people. They work many long hours in the fields around here picking cabbage, harvesting tomatoes etc.

I would also like to know how Irish, Germans, and English etc are not primarily white? Sure there are dark people in every race but most would be considered white wouldn't they?

Now if you look at the percentage of whites to the overall world population, yes we are in the mintority, that is for sure!

I must say, however, that as a white I have rarely felt descrimintaed against. However, it is incomprehensible to me how in other countries such as India (where they are all basically darker hued), or Dominican Republic verses Haiti (where they are all basically dark), why is it that being darker is considered bad? I have a couple of good friends who are pastors in others countries who have married women slightly darker than themselves. They said that when they were dating this comment was made to them numerous times: "Why don't you marry someone whiter so you can improve the race of your family?" THAT is incredibly sick in my opinion. How is lighter better and darker worse? And why does it seem to be the case in so many countries, even in countries where people are definately not white to begin with? Racial prejudice regardless which direction it goes is just plain ugly and incomprehensible in my book.

Yes Taylor ... I have really admired the work ethic and family values in Mexicans. I think we have a lot to learn from them. And what a shame to be thought of as unintelligent. The same is thought of Disabled people. So ... I do not think it is a racist belief. I think that hateful people think LESS of ANYONE who is different from them.

Oops you were discussing whites. Sorry if I got side tracked and off topic. I just am amazed at any prejudice so I had to get in my 2 cents worth. I also didn't grow up in the USA so maybe that is why my views are what they are.

That is an excellent point Redwood and so sad! I have seen people completely look over the top of a person in a wheel chair instead of seeking out their eyes and smiling at them. The packaging of a person doesn't matter but their hearts hurt just as much when they are ignored or treated in this manner.

>>I must say, however, that as a white I have rarely felt descrimintaed against.<<

Evidently, you've not had much opportunity to pass through a barrio, hood, 'inner city', or whatever... you would be discriminated against - and in, probably, very hurtful ways.

That is not to say that

generally, there are many within those aforementioned places that despair of the sort of discrimination a white person encounters there.

>>Racial prejudice regardless which direction it goes is just plain ugly and incomprehensible in my book.<<

Hear! Hear! as ought be in everyone's book.

Actually I have walked in fairly rough neighborhoods but not often, however I have never been threatened. Instead I hang out and talk with them and they say "Yo, you are the most non-white white we have ever met..we like you". hahaha I am not sure that is a compliment or not but I do like people of all races. In hispanic barios I am comfortable as I speak their language due to living in their countries. But I hear you....

Well this is just strange. All whites come from somewhere. There isn't some unknown country out there populated by pure white people. So that 1% has to be descended from some people in europe. Plus, all those europian mixes are WHITE! They will be lighter and darker skined but white all the same.

Amelia ... I am just the messager. It is not MY message. And that is why I included a question mark at the end of the title.

I will let you all decide what the message means.

When I was dating my wife one church member told me I didn't need to marry a spic. Another church member said I would only be able to see Jesus in my wife's eyes if she was white. And another told me nothing was wrong with Mexicans except they didn't have big *****. (My wife is Salavadoran but a lot of racists think are latinos are Mexicans.)

Shane ... I am not a racist. But I have wondered the definition of Latino. Can you help with this?

I am not sure about that myself. I am tempted to say someone with orgins in Latin America although I believe the Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italians are latin too. Perhaps it is someone with orgins in a latin-speaking country. Latin languages include Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. It certainly is a larger group than just Mexicans.

I know the term "Hispanics" comes from the Hispaniola (La Española) islands. Columbis founded the first Spanish colony there. So only those who are from that island or descended from those island peoples can be called "Hispanic". For those that don't know Hispaniola is Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Good grief Shane!!! What is wrong with those people?!!! My word. Derogatory things could be said against whites as well. I SIMPLY do NOT understand this type of attitude. To me it is so incredibly igorant. I am so sorry you had to go through this!

I thought Arians were considered "whites." If so, Germany should be added to the 1%.

Either way, God has made of one blood, all nations of men (Acts 17:26).

Redwood: the above does not make sense.

Germans, Irish, English, Italians, are all White people!!!. Which country did the white 1% come from?

can you give the link to where you got the info from or pst the article.

Laz ... it appears you have not read all of this thread. But I will repeat the info.

This is a quote from Sundays paper written by Courtland Milloy of the Washington Post. The stats are from the 2004 American Census.

I am aware it sounds strange and that is why I put the question mark in the title. I will let each person interpret it for themselves. I guess I am a strange kind of guy and so when I see something strange in the news ... I like to share it.

I am just the messager. I would refer you to the first page of this thread for more info but will say that the title of the newspaper article was "Sharpton revelation worthy of a big yawn".

I guess I am a little old fashioned. I got this from a hard copy newspaper in actual PAPER form rather than cyberspace form. So ... I do not have a link.

RW saith:

"Olger ... That is GOD. But the US has "made" Affirmative Action discrimination."

Olger said "haw." It's time that we relegate affirmative action to the trash heap of history, along with such classics such as "don't spank litle Johnny"; "blacks can't vote"; toilet training is the root of all societal problems'; and my personal favorite "Wearing a hat indoors while whistling is a crime."
