Does she belong here?

If not, I will move this to the Urban Legend forum

No, I haven't been able to find anything. That was what Darol told me, and said that someone told him... etc

All I know is that the last two orders I have put in for her videos have gone unanswered

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Maybe she did die but they don't want to loose out on selling their barley green? It would be hard to admit that someone died after the claims made about healing oneself from cancer by diet, etc. Must do more research...

Here's the latest on Dr. Lorraine Day.

She's been out of touch lately because she just got remarried, a few months ago, to an ex-Senator named Bill Dannemeyer.

That's probably the reason she hasn't been up to speed in answering orders for her video.

She's very much alive. My friend is a distant relative of hers, and she just gave me this update.

Hi Darlene!

"Reseaching"? ... Well, if she is new to others among us and they'd like to research her, let me suggest this link from the Quackwatch website as an excellent resource:

-- Stay Away from Dr. Lorraine Day, by Stephen Barrett, M.D.

As you read, you will also note later in the text that GC headquarters was one of those who did not react very favorably to her "message" and dealings. The article's facts, including the GC letter and her snappy reply, among other things, are fully documented either within the article or footnoted. Barrett's credentials (and his site's record) in evaluating such people stand up pretty well.

By the way, even 3ABN steers pretty well clear of her now, after having allowed her quite a bit of airplay initially and Danny referencing her frequently in his comments during that time.

Norm

Norm, unfortunately I must say I tend to agree with you [and with this website you linked]. I've heard her speak (in an SDA church) and show her pictures.

All I can say is, It strains credulity.

I researched this all out on the Internet sometime last year (I think it was) and this is what I tell customers when they ask about her:

I tell them that personally I think that she is a bit extreme, but much of what she prescribes can be incorporated into anyone's life- such as eating organic, drinking fresh carrot juice and taking a little sunlight instead of shutting it out.

We all know people who have had cancer and have been cured or died with natural treatments, just as there are those who have been cured or died using conventional treatment. Each patient must determine which course they prefer

Also, when I looked up what is written by some people on the Internet, it was not too much different from (what I felt) were typical negative comments by conventional medical people against natural practitioners. There was some skepticism that didn't seem to even allow for benefit of the doubt. I tried to keep an open mind and consider those criticisms of the more objective nature

So- I hear you

As far as Dr. Loraine Day's health message is concerned, she is right on target. In her case she was able to overcome cancer by using natural means, prayer, and following the counsel in the Spirit of Prophecy. Others have too--there are many instances of this. On the other hand, some for various reasons have not been "healed." Who can say why; we just don't know. However we cannot discount her experience.

Now here comes the problem. She has presented on her web site certain postings to the effect that everybody will be saved. Indeed, she has veered away from her health information and is pushing the erroneous God Does Not Kill teaching. And herein lies the problem with the good doctor. We know that the Lord is merciful and longsuffering, but at the same time we know that the wicked will eventually be destroyed.

Suzanne's post covers two issues: Day's experience with healing and her approach to theology. She counters the error of Day's theology. But Day's "natural healing" claims, which she affirms, are another matter.

Cancer often clears up for no known reason, called spontaneous remission. That, by the way, doesn't mean that "infidel doctors" are trying to find a label that doesn't link the remission back to God; it means they don't know why it went away. In Day's case, there was a diagnosed cancer that no one seriously disputes, and then there was this "grapefruit-sized mass."

Apparently, her cancer is in remission. Well and good to this point. But then there is that mass. As Dr. Barrett put it to me recently, "The issue isn't whether Day had cancer but whether she is lying about the nature of her 'grapefruit-sized mass,' which I suspect was merely a cyst. She refuses to release the relevant medical records." And may I add, note the way in which she refuses: the words she chooses and the way she uses them clearly reveal her tone of voice. Lack of emoticons is not an impediment to recognizing it; her attitude is very obvious. When I see all this, it makes me believe her experience is very discountable.

Read Dr. Barrett's article if you haven't yet; this problem (among others) is very clearly spelled out and documented.

Personally, I find the attitude Day displays in this matter as troubling as her lying itself. Neither of them is Christian. And unfortunately, she spirals on down from there; those two things are just the beginning of the problems with Day, not the end of them.

The bottom line in my opinion is that she is neither a good exemplar nor a reliable source of truthful, accurate information ... on either health or religion.

Norm

Maybe one reason that Danny Shelton does not talk about her anymore is that a couple of years ago, his mother and family were on a Mothers-Day show and they told the story of Lorraine Day's cancer cure by juicing. Danny's Mother was so sure that her cancer had been healed by her methods, but last year Danny Shelton's Mother died. I don't know the connection but perhaps her cancer came back--I just know that he said, not long ago, that his Mother was sleeping until Jesus comes and that he missed her terribly.

I'm actually interested in hearing what she has to say. Unfortunately she doesn't have enough info on her website that would sway me to purchase her books/videos. Particularly I'm interested in what she has to say about random double blind placebo controlled studies, supposedly the gold standard of clinical trials.

Georgia I am sure the information Dr. Day provided for Danny Shelton mothers recovery was right on target. As a matter of fact in my opinion it was less harmful that what Danny did to her and his brother Kenny by kicking them off the 3ABN board when big money was waved in his direction to do so. There is nothing wrong with Dr. Days method of TRUE HEAVEN SENT HEALING with out the use of drug medication, that is the way all Adventist was at one time until this church was hy-jacked by terriost. Get real! Or better yet get informed then get real! Just don't follow Dr. Days thelogy approach as she has been following the teachings of Graham Maxwell for so long she is now unstable. Following leadership that was trained wrong is fatal!

One can believe whatever they wish; I'm not out to force anyone's belief system to match my own. But do consider the source when you hear someone saying Lorraine Day has healing all figured out. In my book, any "healer" who starts their approach with a notion such as "germs don't cause disease" takes off on shaky footing at best just to begin with. In Day's case, it goes downhill rapidly from there ... way downhill. I think the term "quack" is appropriately applied to her.

As someone who has had cancer in the past, and who worked at an SDA lifestyle center for many years, and now have a graduate degree in nutrition from Andrews and attend SDA health meetings periodically, there is a widespread concern among SDA health leaders about her methods and teachings. It is one thing to recommend something as an adjunct therapy or extra boost, another to assert it is a cure, and to downplay the role of surgery, which Dr. Day had for the initial mass.

Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.

I believe Lorraine Day had surgery for her condition, but many do not realize this. Ellen White said she had seen angels guide the hands of an SDA surgeon. Those who exclude the possibility of surgery form their medical treatment when it is necessary are endangering themselves.

Ed, were you "caught up in the ways of the world" and "jumping through man-made hoops" when you wired a house according the the rules of the National Electrical Code?

What if you had decided not to fool with the ground wires because that was so much monkey motion and just cost time and money to put the grounding system in? Why do splices have to be made inside a box instead of out in the open, and what's with these requirements that they be put together just so and no other ways are acceptable? A little twist and a few wraps of tape works pretty good. Or what if you'd decided that 14 ga was perfectly adequate for the kitchen range, especially when it's so much easier to route the lighter weight cable through the walls? Most people only use one heating element at a time anyway. And what's the point of installing GFCI's in a bathroom? The wiring worked just fine in the bathrooms of millions of houses without them before GFCI's. Matter of fact, GFCI's are so touchy they trigger way too often anyway, over stuff that doesn't even matter. That's a pain in the neck when you're in a hurry to finish your shave and get out the door.

After all, God made the electrons; they're part of His creation. Who needs a man-made code to tell you what to do with them? Who told these people what God wants and how He intends for electrons to be used and handled. Did they ever open a Bible and see what He had to say? You love the Lord, don't you? So then, He'll guide your hands and thoughts as you work, won't He? Why bother with some man-made code?

Didn't you waste a lot of time and effort learning the Code and passing your licensing exam (which by the way, you probably took by pushing a pencil across an answer sheet) when you could have been out in the field working and doing useful things for people all that time? Look at all the people who need houses. Shouldn't we be building more houses and doing it at less cost, so they can afford to buy them? They need roofs over their heads, Ed.

Norm

Dr Day is on the right track in regards to natural healing. If we prayed and studied scripture and Ministry of Healing more intently we will come to the same conclusion. I’ve lost several relatives to cancer. All except one followed the natural healing method and he is the only one cured of cancer. He had the worse prognosis when he was diagnosed. I am a health practitioner myself and educated in the conventional way of healing. All I can say is that they we don’t have the answers. The only one who does is the Great Physician. Almost all Adventist health practitioners/institutions have failed at bringing patients to him. That is our commission. This coronavirus is testing us. It’s all about strengthening that immune system.
