In an ADVENTIST forum????

Surely, you jest!

No, because not everyone here is Adventist. Not everyone here is a Christian. The OP was for an idea of what rules "we" wanted.

You can play along or not, up to you.

Does this actually happen Stan? Perhaps we could make a rule against that also.

I am very well aware that is what your opinion is concerning me, that is fine. I have no problem with your straight forward honesty concerning opinions you consider babble. Perhaps it is considered a weak opinion, then maybe you can explain why Redwood brings up personal attacks a zillion times.

If I :<img src='http://clubadventist.com/forums/uploads/default_wee.gif' alt='wee'>: to take the following remark by you

and use it in every post I could over and over, would you need a team of five exhaustively reading to figure out what to do, what my motive was, and rather quickly I believe?

Folks, the system we've had in place for years clearly is not working. What's wrong with trying this out? What's wrong with trying to work together to establish a set of rules that nearly everyone agrees on, and trying to live by them?

Yes, it will take work. What on Earth is worth it, if it doesn't require at least a little back-bone?

I agree with Liz who said, "I believe everyone was to write down what rules were important to them. Eventually a recurring theme will emerge, and thus the "official" rules will be born. "

Can we not work together on this??

AND if the thoughts are, that those who violate should be banned, so they can come under another name in 5 minutes, it is time to go back to square one as well.

You can ban the IP address, that would eliminate this problem.

OK, in the Personal Attacks thread and in other places there have been numerous calls for this site to outline and adopt a clear and simple set of rules.

Having tried in the past to write a simple set of rules, I know how difficult the task is. But 'as iron sharpens iron...'

This thread is for people to post their proposed sets of rules. It is not for critiquing others' proposed rules, or for arguments. I just want to see what all those who have called for sets of rules have in mind: so stand up and show us.

Getting back to topic. Are there others here who have rules they'd like to see implemented? Share them!

Not really, we have one member from Germany for example, that will visit here from a number of IP address from around the world. Most AOL people have the same IP number

AND... they respond with a zillion word post, trying to defend their statement, AND few read more that 100 words in anyones long babble..

Here is one suggestion for a RULE ... No babbling.

One who "babbles" is one who is like the following ....

Quote:
"One object before them in the erection of the tower of Babel was to secure their own safety in case of another deluge." PP 119

What they try to do is to provide as much words as they can. This is their "tower" of protection before the next deluge or offense that they can "claim". Then they build another tower.

I think this quote provides a valuable lesson for us here on CA.

So ... Rule 1 ... No Babbling.

They may read but how do they re-register when you need to pay to do so.I don't have five credit cards in five different names. It would be pretty obvious by my card info what I was doing

Why would it take a team of 5? There is safety in numbers, and this should not be a sole reflection of my views.

This is FORUM, not a place that is NOT a FORUM..

Thanks, I will leave it alone. Still not an answer to a specific question. Yes, there is safety in numbers.

I just had another thought. Since you can't "ban" effectively, because they could come back under another name. How about, once someone is "banned", no one is approved for membership for 24 or 48 hours? Then the "banned" person has at least a day or two before they can post again? Maybe by then they will have cooled off, or the topic has moved on?

Yes? No?

Would't matter in my case, can't figure out how others pull it off. 24-48 hours or 30 days my credit card info on paying the dues would not change. The only way I could do that would be with permission

The paying of dues is the best way to stop people from having a zillion accounts. We have moved away from having to pay dues, but that was the best way.

Not every poster here does support financially, and it seems when people do support financially they become 'better' posters, not sure why...

With all the online groups, like facebook, there are less and less who want to have a financial supporting site.

Didn't realize people were no longer required to pay. I was recently accused of being another but for me my ip remains the same. Even gives the county in which I live if anyone wants to kook it up. Really can't hide it

If the system is not working, then why is this the largest unofficial SDA forum on the net?

Since this all began with redwoods plea once again and again to do something about personal attacks he would maybe be the one to address that

MY 2 cents here.

Whatever Redwood, Neil and all the others who attack or run to admin that they are being attacked should make the rules. They seem to anyways.

As was said before; MY IP remains the same. However, you can go to a library and register or go to your office and register under another name. I have known several on here who have done this very thing.

The only banning going on are on those that stand by their convictions. Their beliefs and only those that do not join in on the mocking and/or attacking of others. While I share ideas not one single person has EVER asked me via PM or otherwise what I was intending when I said something. First thing that happens when I do not make some people happy is I get banned. Never really told why, just banned. Not for a few days to a month; but for a very long period of time. Then let back in, still never told why I was banned. I however have noticed that when I go up against someone and stand my ground and my beliefs is when I get banned.

So I purpose that maybe instead of banning at someone elses request;

1. ASK the person what their intentions were with their post BEFORE banning and talk to them. Not all of admin are going to be reading every single post made on this board. Only when it is brought to their attention will they possibly read a post they are not interested in.

Here's a few rules from another Christian forum. Some made me smile.

The names or titles of God, including Jesus Christ and the Persons of the Trinity (Father, Son, or Holy Spirit), in any language, are not to be used as expletives or interjections or in an abusive, mocking, or insulting way.

Sharing of information about one's beliefs, for instance by quoting Bible verses or witnessing, is encouraged. Honest debate and discussion regarding the existence and nature of God is allowed and welcome. Mockery of Christians, Christians beliefs, and the Christian God are not.

Promotion of the religion or rituals of Satanism is strictly prohibited. Promotion is defined as the active attempt to sway others to Satanic beliefs and/or practices.

Flaming, baiting, trolling, or feeding trolls is not allowed. This also applies to groups. In other words, play nice, don't hurt others, nor call them names.

If you think you are being flamed, choose *not* to be offended, but instead take a break, and communicate, rather than escalating or accusing others.

Defamation is not allowed.

Harassment of another member is not allowed.

Threads which are off topic for the individual forums are not allowed, and substantial derails of threads are not looked upon in a favorable fashion.

Congregational Forums wishing to remain safe havens may choose to limit debate to members of their own denomination, insist that all posts conform to their creed etc.

Age and or gender restrictions are to be respected.

Reasonable confidentiality will be respected by Staff and Members, alike.

Issues with staff decisions should be taken to the staff member, then the reconciliation team, period. Don't post them, don't PM them to others, don't take them to Lee.

Do not say racist or sexist things. If the swear filter is activated, edit your post, don't try to bypass it. Don't post graphics or text you would not be comfortable sharing with someone's grandmother.

Don't break the law, don't violate copyright, threaten others, or do or promote anything illegal.

Don't spam in threads or sigs, don't promote get rich quick schemes anywhere on the site.

Use the brain God gave you. Think before you post. Think about how your post may affect someone else.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
