Woody
Okay. This thread is not open to any Feds out there. Can I talk freely ??? This week I had a stranger knock on my door. She was in bare feet and had long hair. She told me her name and then just stood there. After some silence ... I asked her "Am I suppose to know you?" I had to probe and find out WHY she was at my doorstep. Finally she indicated that she wanted to see my "poppies". I told her ... I didn't know that I had any poppies. (We have just purchased this home). But she assured me that I did. She took me around back and showed me all the strange looking poppies. She wanted their seeds. But since they were not ready ... she promised to return. Folks. Is this all above board? Or do I have the Afganistan type poppies. She indicated that they were higly unusual for this area and really wanted the seeds. I assured her that she could have them but then later thought more about it. Am I providing Poppy seeds illegally. Will the police be watchin me? I know what California Poppies look like ... but these are really strange. They are no Calif. Poppies. Any Help ??? If you don't hear from me ... it was too late and the police have already hauled me off .... :( Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. I wouldn't be supplying any seeds no matter what, even if they are legit. If someone wants them, and a complete stranger, you do not know anything about her, and you just might be getting yourself into a lot of trouble. Neil D
OOOOoooooh boy...! Fodder for the Clubadventist BBS... So, do they look something like this- Or this- Or how bout this?- 'Cus, if your poppys look anything like the first or third one, you got NOTHING to worry about....Just some strange poppy seeds that grow up to look realy neat....However, if you got ones that look like that 2nd one, my advice is to pull them up and destroy them....Or contact the police and ask what to do with them... ..Of course, you realize that your conservative republican lifestyle brought this upon you, don't you? Woody
I haven't seen them in bloom yet. So, I can't say for sure. But what has me worried is that their stalks are very strange looking ... and twisted. Does anyone know of a good web site I could look for photos. For some reason they resemble ones that I think I saw on the news about Afganistan. Oh boy. Perhaps I should not be sharing this online. I may have more strangers coming to my property. All I know about poppies is that they made Dorothy very sleepy. teehe Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Woody
Thanks Liz. Problem is that he mostly shows the flowers and not the stalks. So, I will try and see if I can send him a photo. Guest gem
Ok, is that really your poppies there? Can you rotate it to the left 90 degrees. Interestingly, those are the poppies buds that people steal from somebody's backyard for smoking purposes. My chiropractor have same kind on their front yard and kids stealing the buds. One guy parked his car on the curb, looked around, then proceeded to pull the plants from a woman's yard. He didn't know that the home owner was home and was filming him. So she gave the tape to the police. The poppies you have seems has a strong stem and more likely have more potent effect. Save some of the seeds for next year. They have beautiful flowers. You may want to pull them earlier before the girl will return.
Amelia
Those are poppy seed heads. That's what you get after the bloom is spent. It's not the seeds that contain the opium but the seed head it'self. But extraction needs to commence within two weeks of petal drop. Plus the pod heads need to stay on the stalk. Remove them and the pods are useless. The only poppy that produces the milk for opium is the Papaver somniferum (sleep poppy). However, the seeds from this poppy are what you find in all types of baked goods. And what will give you a positive on a drug screen if you have ingested a sufficient quantity prior to the test. Since it is illegal to sell the Papaver somniferum in plant or fertile seed form in the U.S., I very much doubt your poppies are dangerious. Amelia
Well I'm no expert but the Papaver somniferum has 3 bloom stalks per plant. Those in the picture look like singles. But it's hard to tell. Neil D
Thanks Amelia. Do you know what kind of Poppy I have? Redwood, I thought you knew what kind of poppy you have, based upon your lifestyle of the rich, conservative republican.....The rich kind...the kind that lends itself to dreams ...and occasional nightmares...the kind of poppy that will let you share those dreams at a price.....those type of dreams that need a small pipe....you know, pipe dreams....
