Who Built Palin's House?

House Gate?

"Todd Palin told Fox News that he built the two-story, 3,450-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bath, wood house himself, with the help of contractors he described as "buddies." As mayor, Sarah Palin blocked an effort to require the filing of building permits in the wide-open city, and there is no public record of who the "buddies" were. The house was built very near the complex, on a site whose city purchase led to years of unsuccessful litigation and, now, $1.3 million in additional costs, with a law firm that's also donated to Palin collecting costly fees from the city."

The whole article raises a new ethics allegation from Caribou Barbie's mayoral days. Palin's house built by Todd's "buddies" who were also contractors on the sports complex, including one prominent contractor/supplier implicated in the Senator Stevens corruption scandal. At the very least there certainly was a whole lot of mutual back scratching going on!

I am just wondering if she stole toilet paper from City Hall when she was mayor. I wouldn't put it past her. I bet she would just love to wipe herself with tax-payer's dollars. We need to put our foot down with these kinds of people. They can buy their own toilet paper. Leave the rolls for the office at the office. For goodness sake, doesn't Alaska sell Charmin in the grocery stores!?!

Hey! Sarcasm is my tool, not yours! handbags

But seriously... thinking ... I am just trying to keep up with John317's use of Jerome Corsi's cavorting with socialists and terrorists foolishness... reyes

This Mudflats story was based on a Village Voice article. We will see if this story gets any traction in the next week or so. MSNBC has picked up on it tonight. It sounds to me like there is smoke and where there is smoke, there is fire...

When I award contracts to subcontractors they often want to help me at my house or in the mission field with things I am doing. I always tell my boss what they are doing for me so it isn't something he finds out about through other means which could make me look bad. So it is my experience that this kind of thing is quite common. With his wife as mayor it would probably have not been a good call for Todd to let this happen. But that is a big assumption to believe he did.

In Alaska there is a work season, like fishing season, where workers make a lot of money and then have a long period of time off. It is quite possible that Todd made a bunch of money during a work season and then built his house during the down season with some of his buddies in the same situation.

So I don't see any real reason to assume the worst. I do see this kind of a story as the throw-anything-against-the-wall type of political tactic.

So, like, these contractors...the ones who worked on that collisium for the City....these contractors would also work on the Palin house....and these contractors would get the city to wave building permits....and this is called "ethical"?

I have not heard anything about building permits. The permitting process varies significantly from city to city. Most cities I have worked in require permits for municipal projects however I worked in one that made municipal projects exempt from permits. Whether or not the Palins needed a permit for their house would depend upon if it was inside the city limits or not. However there is no reason not to get a permit. The cost of a residential permit is rather inexpensive. The cost of the permit covers the inspections which any homeowner would want. The inspections will insure the framing, electrical, plumbing, etc are done correctly. No homeowner would want to build a house they are going to live in themselves that is built substandard.
