My father was a war hero (Viet Nam, when being a hero meant NOT getting shot down) with a building named after him on an Air Force Base. Today, I am registered as 'no party affiliation'. I do not believe in the big government corporate welfare state of the neocons, and I HATE religion being taken as such an important definer in politics. Small government means your religion is your own business. I have lived in 2 'socialist' countries, Sweden and The Netherlands. The people are richer, better educated, healthier, live longer, have less crime, and rate much higher on the 'happiness' index than Americans. As a small business owner, I pay more in taxes here than I did there, but here I get NOTHING for my money. The big banks do, though. I have voted for Obama. He represents a re-balancing of the scales to help the middle class. That is not socialism, that is patriotism. If you make less than $300,000 a year, and support McCain, you have been duped. What made this country great, was a strong middle class, when blue collar workers were also middle class. Obama is winning, because millions of people are behind him, donating money, canvassing neighborhoods etc. He has united America, while McCain tries to keep it divided. Dr. Shane Posted November 3, 2008 Share Posted November 3, 2008 I don't buy into the idea that the middle class is hurting. I have seen the statistics and over the past 30 years the middle class has maintained itself fine. The percentage in poverty has remain about the same. If anything is happening to the middle class it is that a portion of them are moving into the upper class but they are not sinking into the lower class. The statistics just do not support that. That is not to take away from this guy's letter. I am confident that those of us in the middle class will do fine under Obama. However I think we would do fine under McCain too. The biggest reason I voted for Obama is his support of universal health care. Not only do I want it but there are a lot of people in the US without health care coverage and many with it that still don't get their check-ups because the co-pays and deductibles are too expensive. In addition to that I feel more comfortable with Obama's character despite the fact that I disagree with him on a number of political issues. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... You guys, Shane and Olger, are too young to remember a better time for the middle class...And perhaps by the end of the next 4 years, you might just see that the middle class come back and society take care of it's own a bit better than under conservative leadership....Today, I see nurses wiped out because of a illness...I see doctors having a hard time! I see people like Joe the plummer currently having a hard time making ends meet.... I am sorry...but you guys are out of touch with reality...
