Trip to the Drug Store

Recommended Posts

My wife is sick.

I went to the drug store on Friday to buy some cough syrup. They had plenty on stock. I grabbed one and proceeded to pay.

First of all the computer didn't recognize my discount card. I thought that was strange. I have used it many times here.

Oh well ... I just wanted to pay and get it to my wife.

Next ... the gal tells me she can't let me have the cough syrup. I ask why? She says the register doesn't recognize the product. So, she can't sell it to me. So then I ask her if I could just pay the price with cash under the table so to speak. She say no. Next I ask if she has something comparable she can sell me. So, she goes back and gets me some children's cough syrup. I tell her that my wife is not a child but that she does need the cough syrup. Please just take my cash. Tell the computer later.

I was tempted to accuse her of not being willing to sell it to a white person ... but resisted. I just couldn't figure out why they would not sell me what they had on stock.

Anyway ... I had to return home empty handed. My wife just had to suffer. At church while she was preaching it sounded like she was sick. All because of this drug store that would not sell me their drugs.

What is there about me? Is it my color of skin? Is it the way I look? Do I look like a drug dealer or something? Is it my tone of voice? OR did she know that Blanche would be preaching? Why does she think that Blanche is a child? Is this a sign of the end? I feel a conspiracy story coming.

Neil ... help me out here ...

First off, I am real sorry that your wife is sick. Secondly, I was having the exact same problem earlier today. I was trying to find cough medicine that wasn't contraindicated with dh's heart medicine, I also ended up with getting him a children's type medicine.

I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

I'd tend to blame the technology rather than the person. You know that all technology has built-in urgency detector chips, right? The later your assignment is, and the closer to deadline you get, the more chance that the printer will start chewing pages, the photocopier will jam irreparably, the computer will crash and erase all your work, the cell phone won't have bars or batteries, and so on. And don't even get me started on technology in stores... so it was the urgency detector chip that knew Blanche was preaching.

Great Post Bravus. I loved it. Provided a few good chuckles. Thanks.

Maybe it was God asking you to not let her infect others with her sickness? Maybe without the medicine, she would have stayed home, and let those at church stay healthy?

Just a thought.

Or, it could be that the cashier could clearly note the urgency in your posture and attitude, and just wanted to mess with you?

Or, maybe the machine was really just ka-put, and didn't work?

Did you try another store?

Just a thought, or two.

Maybe you could have doubled the dosage on the childs version of the product you were offered?

Either way, glad you still have a good sense of humor over the whole thing.

Sounds to me simply like the item just wasn't entered into the system. That's what bar codes are for.

When that happens to us (occasionally) we just punch in the dollar amount and the category the item falls under and give it to the customer, even if we have to invent a price.

Hi Gail. Wish you had been the clerk. The prices was clearly marked on all of them on the shelf. But she wouldn't help me out !!! I tried to bribe her ... no luck. But it was getting very close to Sabbath and so I just went home empty handed. I was not physically able to go to any other stores anyway.

She is not getting better. But I do know she has been drinking some teas. Don't think she is much on garlic teas though. What do they do for you?

Sorry she isn't doing better. But if she drinks garlic tea....she won't have to worry about any presntations or preaching or anything because everyone will be fleeing so fast from the smell that they won't have a chance to hear her.

It's a very effective expectorant, natural.

There is just a strong odor to it that you have to work through. But it works well :)

I wish you had noted this earlier Taylor. She had a Board Meeting today and I wish that a number of the members were not there. Perhaps if she had the garlic tea ... they would have left.

Sorry you had a bad experience. The salesclerk wasn't doing her job effectively. Of course she could have rung up the item using the price, sounds a bit like laziness. But since you were in a drugstore and there were plenty of other products to choose from, why didn't you pick another product? Surely they didn't carry just one adult and one child cough syrup?

That is why I asked her if they had something comparable. All she could come up with to sell me was Pediatric cough syrup.

There are definitely some incompetent sales people out there. But (if you can cope with a little profanity), a trawl through www.customerssuck.com some time will make you aware of what they in turn have to deal with from the public.

Thanks Bravus ... I did. But it is hard to have sympathy for some sales persons.

Gentlemen,

I would like to put forward a theory that I believe is more true than ...yarn-ish...

I believe that the family of Redwoods is beset by gremlins....Gremlins are those small creatures who primary purpose is to cause mischief and mayhem and confusion and mal-relationships. They are more demon prone but are not demons....[well, maybe they are] but they are not fatal...sometimes....They will cause car accidents, a person to miss the nail with the hammer and hit his thumb instead, create a spark near an overturned gasoline canister or anything that will cause destruction or embarrase the Christian.

Anyways, in this case, Redwood went to the store to get cough syrup and the gremlins recognized an importunity and promptly messed with the cash register and caused it to malfunction. It's a common occurrence...

The only way to get rid of them is by prayer....and lots of it...They are very stubborn about leaving...but if you get a few people to pray, it has been known that they leave....

Just my $0.02 worth of advice...

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

Liz ... Neil has the authority to make up any words that he pleases.

If Neil says that yarnish is a word ... then yarnish is a word.

What I want to know is:

Who are you guys prayin for?

1. Me

2. The cash register

3. The cashier

4. The cough syrup

5. The gremlins

6. All the above

If I knew how to do a poll ... I would do that. Because this is an important aspect of this thread.

May I ask you what are you doing spelling MY word all wrong? Are you trying to subvert the conveying of ideas and contributing to mal-ideas leading to the disease of the misinformed? Just what the heck are you, anyway? a spell checker????

It's "Yarn-ish"....as in like a fanciful story, a yarn...Yarn-ish...

BTW, Redwood...thank you...
