Members rudywoofs (Pam)
I don't know about Olsen, but LeRoy Edwin Froom was apparently a very prolific writer. I'm not sure how you can find out which book HMS Richards Sr. recommended, but I'm guessing it was Movement of Destiny: from: 1888 history The 1888 message was the "beginning" of the Loud Cry rather than a mere "reemphasis" of Lutheranism or Calvinism. The first clear recognition of this to come from our presses occurs in Dr. L.E. Froom’s Movement of Destiny (1971): Quote: 1888 truly signaled the beginning of the "time" of the Loud Cry and Latter Rain—and significantly of the inception of the added light and power of the Augmenting Angel of Rev. 18:1. p. 570. L E Froom, Movement of Destiny, Washington, D.C.: Review and Herald Publishing Association, 1971. Available for sale on the internet book available Other places have it for sale as well. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Moderators John317 Posted January 28, 2009 Moderators Share Posted January 28, 2009 According to Froom, in Message of Destiny, the 1888 Message was accepted by the church and resulted in great victory. This view is quite different from the viewpoint of Ellen White and most church historians. Ellen White said the message was largely rejected and resulted in a delay of Christ's return. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Members rudywoofs (Pam)
It was just a guess on my part as to what book Joe Knapp was looking for... I'm no theologian.. ....But I did do a lot of research in looking for what book he might be wanting. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Joe_in_RP
1971 would be about right. My guess is HMS was giving the talk in the sixties. Thank you. One down and one to go. Olson, A.V. 1888-1901: 13 Crisis Years (Washington DC: Review and Herald, 1981). Found it listed in Wikipedia. Amazing. Thank you rudywoofs. I searched on the Froom book and found the second. I will buy them because HMS recommended them.
Joe_in_RP
I now have the book by A. V. Olsen. It is great. I have the second edition which includes one more sermon. It is edited by the White Estate because Bro Olsen died on the Friday afternoon he finished it. He was a former chairman of the board of trustees for the White Estate. The Appendix has 10 of Mrs Whites sermons given at the meeting. I have never seen one of her sermons before.
Members phkrause
Good Sabbath Joe. That sounds interesting! Hope it gives you some good reading pleasure. pk Quote phkrause By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. {5T 451.1}
