Unnecessary attempt to compare two incomparables.

In the context of the discussion it's logical.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

I want to say solemnly, the burka is not welcome in France," Sarkozy told lawmakers.

Woody, Do you agree with Sakozy here?

I am not French so I have no say. But, I would ban it if in general the women are refusing to allow security searches at places such as airports and public facilities.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

The problem of the burka is a relilgious problem to a sect of Islam. Anyone who does not beleive it is a religious problem does not understand Islam and its sects.

Yes I would go along with that. What good has ever come from those people?

I'm not saying it not a religious problem. I want to know why some of us on CA support the ban. The best answer is the eye issue. That's different to what s being said in France, Belgium. etc.

My point is, it seems people/governments only have problems with Muslims and their traditional dress. I have never heard of anyone complaining about the headgear/dress of other religions.

True. I suppose that the fact that the Anabaptists don't strap grenades to their chests might have something to do with it.

Could it be because none of the other religions cover their faces, hiding their identity, and or true gender?

What are they going to ban next? Sunglasses? Women should be allowed to wear headcoverings for religious reasons if they want to. These countries probably just want to keep out Muslims.
The burka is just an excuse. Many of the women who wear them are forced to wear them. But no one is really talking about these women not being allowed to wear them at all; only to contribute to the common good of security and respect the fact that most people who ask them to remove these head coverings actually do not have any racist or religious freedom designs.

I had occasion to go into a Jewish synagogue a while ago. I had to go in as a part of my job at the time. In order to be allowed in, I had to wear one of those little beanies. (sorry, I don't know what they are called). There's no difference between this and a Muslim lady being asked to TEMPORARILY remove a headcovering for security or other important reasons. How can that kind of request possibly be against their religion?

Methinks that fanatics and activists on both sides who have no idea what they are talking about are at work.

should rage so fiercely round me in it's wrath
