Stan Posted July 17, 2010 Share Posted July 17, 2010 Anthony N. Peters , age 87, of Tujunga, CA, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, June 24, 2010. Tony was born to the late Andrew and Rose (Melnek) Peters on July 20, 1922 in Sheboygan, the 4th of 8 children. He attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from North High School, Class of 1940. He received his B.S. in Biology from Emmanuel Missionary College (Andrews University) in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and graduated from Loma Linda Medical School in California in 1946. Tony completed one year internship at LA County Hospital in 1947. Soon afterward, his practice was interrupted as he was called to serve in the Korean War as Captain of a battalion aid station in the Medical Services Corps of the 7th Army Division. In 1953 Dr. Peters resumed his practice of family medicine in Burbank, CA, and was on staff at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center until the age of 80. He was a compassionate listener and counselor and will be forever remembered for his loving and caring nature and his steadfast dedication to his patients. Dr. Peters was also known for his love of music and often visited the hospital wards and nursing homes with his harmonicas, playing hymns and big band era favorites. He also loved to play the piano and guitar. Tony was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church and was active in weekly Bible studies. He had an unwavering faith in God and deep love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Dr. Peters was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of 15 years; his children, Shirley (Dave) Wergin of Boulder, CO, Rick (Lonna) Peters of Castaic, CA, Doug Peters of Yakima, WA, Dr. John (Amanda) Peters of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, David Peters of Montrose, CA, Lisa (Neil) Sherman of Studio City, CA; stepchildren, Mitch (Veronica) Orsatt of West Covina, CA and Jarrod Orsatt of Tujunga, CA; sisters, Helen Danci of Sheboygan, WI, and Rose (Don) DuBois of Los Alamos, NM; brother, John Peters of Tucson, AZ; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his sisters, Anne Peters and Marie Bauer; and brothers, Andrew Peters and Frank Peters. A Memorial service was held in Glendale, CA and interment was at Forest Lawn of Hollywood Hills.
