Stan
Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Department of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty March 4, 2005 RELIGIOUS LIBERTY NEWSFLASH! Ten Commandments Brochure Goes to the Supreme Court Crowds lined up early in the morning hoping to get into the U.S. Supreme Court and hear arguments in two cases involving the public display of the Ten Commandments. Members of the press, lawyers, and citizens received a complimentary copy of our brochure, “Written in the Heart,” hot off the press just in time. The theme of this brochure is that Americans do need the Ten Commandments – written in the human heart by the Almighty, not merely put on public display. It is a powerful combination of a spiritual and religious liberty message. It is also now available for public distribution, together with our poster, portraying the hand of God writing the law on the human heart, at www.religiousliberty.info. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on this case in June. We have a narrow window of opportunity to widely influence the public, while it is paying attention to the Ten Commandments. Act now to widely distribute these brochures. Adventists have long believed as a matter of Bible prophecy that public policy would focus on the law of God and the Ten Commandments in the last days. Now is our chance to publicly champion the law in a very positive, spiritual manner. The brochure avoids the quagmire of legalisms, whether and under what circumstances the state should be permitted to display the commandments. Instead, the brochure emphasizes our need for God to do what the state cannot do – change our hearts. The brochure is a publication of the North American Religious Liberty Association –West. It was written by Christa and Alan Reinach, and edited by Clifford Goldstein. Special thanks to James Standish, Esq., Executive Director of NARLA, for organizing the effort at the Supreme Court, and also at the National Press Club debate on the Ten Commandments cases the week before. All are encouraged to join NARLA, and join the front lines of religious liberty.
