Quote:

Solidity indeed becomes the Pen

Of him that writeth things Divine to men;

But must I needs want solidness, because

By Metaphors I speak? Were not God's Laws,

His Gospel-Laws, in olden time held forth

By Types, Shadows, and Metaphors? Yet loth

Will any sober man be to find fault

With them, lest he be found for to assault

The highest Wisdom. No, he rather stoops,

And seeks to find out what by Pins and Loops,

By Calves, and Sheep, by Heifers, and by Rams,

By Birds, and Herbs, and by the blood of Lambs,

God speaketh to him. And happy is he

That finds the light and grace that in them be.

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Thanks Gail and dgrimm60

some interesting points. found out the authors stand regarding sabbath.

Quote:

Hope. I continued a great while in the delight of those things which were

seen and sold at our Fair; things which I believe now would have (had I

continued in them still) drowned me in perdition and destruction.

Chr. What things were they?

Hope. All the Treasures and Riches of the World. Also I delighted much in

Rioting, Revelling, Drinking, Swearing, Lying, Uncleanness, Sabbath -

breaking, and what not, that tended to destroy the Soul. But I found at last,

by hearing and considering of things that are Divine, which indeed I heard of

you, as also of beloved Faithful, that was put to death for his faith and good

living in Vanity Fair, That the end of these things is death. And that for

these things' sake the wrath of God cometh upon the children of disobedience.

I absolutely love this book. It's imagery is so rich and the truths it conveys so deep, true, and profound.
