Services for Deacon Harry Richard Riley. 104, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, in Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7709 Wilson Blvd., with interment to follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and the family will receive friends at 6 p.m. in Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home, 2229 Two Notch Road.

A son of the late David and Rebecca Speaks Riley, he was born in St. Matthews, and passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, in Orangeburg.

He attended the public schools of St. Matthews through the 10th grade. The school year only lasted six months in rural S.C. communities. However, Harry was selected Valedictorian of his class in 1928. He later enrolled at Allen University. He was later married to the late Viola Wilson. To this 53-year union, four children were born. He was employed at Dorn V.A. Hospital in the Dietetic Department for 31 years.

Afterwards he married Mattie Murfee, and moved to Orangeburg. In 1926, he joined Union Baptist Church, and in 1948 he joined Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors are three children, Virginia (Layton) Cofield, Richard (Tommie) Riley, Evangeline (John) Rice; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
