There was a new experimental proceedure and Drs from all over flew in (she was number 8 in the world) it proved effecive. It is now called 'drive-by aneuysm' This was the third time they had done an experimental process which worked. She says her reason for life is to be a guinea pig so that others can live. Today I come with a new prayer request. History: She has previously had cancer three times, a very large brain aneuysm, 21 operations. Then a very rare lung disease for which the origin is unknown and treatment which appears to be primarily heavy doses of steriods; prognosis 1-2 years to live (as of last May). Being an active career person, she was told that even if she beats it she can never return to work. Now as of yesterday, she received the results of a biopsy which indicates a new very agressive form of cancer. I feel that the steriods which keep her breathing are probably the result of speed at which the new cancer is growing. Perhaps I am incorrect. Thursday they are doing a full body scan in an attempt to identify all areas in which the new growth has spread. Friday they will operate. The first fear is that due to her lungs once they put her under they will not be able to bring her back. Your prayers are greatly appreciated. Thank you. It has been a long week and a very long day. Our Lord is good and I believe prayers have been answered. Her damaged lungs responded extremely well. Her surgeon said that the malignant glands which were removed did not appear to be 'leaking' ... we will know more next week. On Tuesday they will do a full-body scan in an attempt to determine if there are any additional cells. She will have a low dose of chemotherapy. Karen's courage is strong and is making long-term plans for her future. I am so thankful for her strength and firm, positive attitude. Again, thank you. In Jan I asked for your prayers and we were blessed to have her survive both operations. They say that for cancer to return in the area in which it did after her previous operations only happens in 3% of women. Her chemo will last for amost a year. I am proud of her good attitude and spirit. Karen has/had blond hair to her waist. Today she had her hair cut and donated it. She was a little sad to have it gone, but said that this way she knows it will make someone feel good about themselves. She is not 'out-of-the-woods' yet, when you happen to think about it, please say a prayer. "Not the preacher, nor the deacon, but it's me Oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer." Yes, we all are in need of prayer. Gail mentioned a few days ago that we should pray daily for our C/A Family. And, I have been doing just that. As for Karen's update. She is going for her Chemo treatments and is still using the same strength steroids. Which I so wish could be reduced but an thankful that her lungs are hanging in. Her attitude is good, but realistic. After having the last of her beautiful long blond hair was cut she tried a couple of wigs but has been buying some pretty bright colored scarves for her head. She has never been into bright colors but is now learning to mix them, tie them into interesting patterns and having fun with it. I am so thrilled with her positive attitude ... at least the majority of the time. Yesterday afternoon we had lunch and spent a lot of time, just the two of us. We laughed and had a lot of fun, it was so good. But, when we left she told me to be careful with my purse and I should check it when I got home. Of course, I only made it a discrete block of so. She received a tax refund and a nice settlement for a hand injury at work a few years ago. Inside the card was a $1000. check to me. I called her IMMEDIATELY and thanked her and said I would not accept it. She reminded me of the many times, and especially recently, that I have been her only source of income and that she can do this now and wants to do it. After some discussion I reminded her that her extra money won't last long and we'll be back to trying to come up with monies so I will put it into a separate account in both of our names. She said, "Mom, that is why I am doing this now. I am not saying that I won't be around by fall but if I am not I want you to use it for something nice for yourself." OA I have to admit that I kept a stiff upper lip and made some stupid off-the-wall funny remark that we both laughed over. But, I came home and cried and tried to pray all afternoon, night and this morning. And, I am not a person who to cry easily., I am wondering why I am sharing all of this just now. Your question opened a flood gate and I suppose I am using this as therapy. So thank you for asking ... My daughter did something and we grounded her for a week. But during the week she asked if she could go to the book store and get a book, so I relented and said OK. So she rode her bike, but got her sweater count in the wheel tines in the front and of course the bike stop and she went over the front and landed on her face. they took her to the ER at Clinton Hospital and than down to a bigger ER and a plastic surgeon to make sure it was done right. As they where giving her the shots to localize the area I think I cried more than her. Our kids are our world, now I do the same with my grandson. Anyway glad to hear things are going well, will continue to keep you and your daughter in our prays. I had lunch today with our family doctor and wife. He commented on all the close calls she has been through. He said, that there have been so many miracles in her life. Miracles in bringing the finest specialists into OKC, who flew in just for her. Miracles for new procedures which have came at just the right time. He reiterated that there have been so many events which only God could have performed.
