Robert “Bob” Townsend, 69, of Girard

Robert “Bob” Townsend, 69, of Girard, died at 9:23 P.M., Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

He was born November 18, 1942 at Girard, a son of Robert Edward and Pauline (Bever) Townsend. He was raised in Girard and lived his life here. He began working with his father in-law in the heating and cooling business and later was self employed doing that along with plumbing. He did work for various contractors in the Girard area throughout the years.

On February 22, 1964 he and Joye Larmer were married at the Girard Presbyterian Church. They later divorced.

He was a member of the Hepler Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was involved in church activities through the years and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Rob Townsend, and his wife, Jenny, of Joplin; two daughters, Amy Townsend and Lauren Loucks, of Emporia, and Kelly Saia and her husband, Vince, of Pittsburg; nine grandchildren, Megan (Saia) Roth, and her husband, Carl, of Pittsburg, Chelsi Saia of Pittsburg, Sam Saia of Kansas City, Kan., Jordan Saia of Pittsburg, Taylor Saia of Pittsburg, Joe Saia of Pittsburg, Drew Townsend of Joplin, Kennedy Townsend of Joplin and Cooper Townsend of Joplin; one brother, Brian Townsend, of Des Moines, Iowa; and one sister, Joan Smith, of Mapleton, Kan.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister – Betty Jean Townsend, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 26, 20012 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Farlington Cemetery.
